Inner ear problem and Class1 medical.

Hi.
I have not been diagnosed but I am pretty sure that I have an inner ear problem of some sort. My question is, if I manage to get this sorted out and get a clean bill of health from my doctor would I be able to pass the Class1 medical test?
If anyone can shed any light on this I would be very greatful. :ok:

Can you be more specific, and what is the duration of your symptoms ?

Anyway, with your ears, the answer is simple, get a diagnosis. Go to your GP and if necessary he, or she, will refer you to an ENT specialist.
If you have aproblem, you probably won't pass a Class 1 until it is resolved.

You'd need to get a diagnosis. At this stage, it should be your health that should be your prime concern.

After you've got the diagnosis, you could then approach the CAA to check if it is possible to pass the Class 1 with it or not. You can call and talk to them - you don't even have to give them your name if you are seeking a general advice.

If you are concerned about whether you can pass the medical or not due to the diagnosis, and that's the reason why you're delaying seeking medical help, it won't do anyone any good - neither you nor your prospective passenger. Besides, you probably won't pass the Class 1 if you have an inner ear problem anyway, until you get it sorted. So get it checked out ASAP!!

Hi.
I have been delaying going to the doctors in the hope that it might clear up by itself but i have been having the symptoms for 4 months now so i guess it wont.
My worry is that they will look at my medical records and see that I have been to see a doctor with my ear problem and fail me because of that. If I get it fully sorted out and there is no chance of it coming back would the fact that I have had an ear problem it the past mean a fail?

Andy, whether it would be a problem or not with the Class 1 would probably depend on what your condition is. Again, you'll need a diagnosis first and then ask the CAA whether that diagnosis would be a problem after it is fully cleared, or if there is any waiting period involved before you can get a Class 1, or if it would be permanently disqualifying.

Without the diagnosis, I don't think even CAA would be able to tell you whether it would be a problem or not.
