Boeing tops 1,000 orders for first time

US aviation giant Boeing said today it had received 1,002 net commercial plane orders in 2005, beating its previous record of 877 in 1988 and topping the 1,000 order level for the first time.
In a statement, Boeing said it had recorded 569 net orders for its medium haul 737 planes, 154 for long range 777s and 235 for its new
Dreamliner 787s. The company also delivered its final 757 in 2005.
Boeing is battling to regain top spot in global commercial aviation from its European rival Airbus, which is looking to hit 752
orders in 2005.
