The price will be £25.50 per head which is the best price around. The Holiday Inn in 2004 was £36 and I didn't ask this year. This is not a bad price after chasing around trying to get deals - and we do know that this hotel is a good venue with a good atmosphere and good food.
I have reserved 30 rooms and they are priced at Single £69 and Double £75 including full English breakfast. You will need to book those yourself. You can do that by phone or on the e-mail address above - please quote the PPRuNe Bash.
The one thing I came across at the Holiday Inn when I first enquired for 2005 and then decided to see what else was on offer, was that the new owners introduced parking charges for guests. That now is seemingly standard for the area and for most hotels. The Thistle is no exception. However, I have agreed the existing charges because there is no leeway 0-24hrs is £6. However!!! If you arrive early enough there is FREE parking in front of The Chequers bar. Once you go through the barrier you are on the charge above - but the first two hours is free and as i understand it if you stay it's £6.
I have now confirmed house wines at £12 instead of £14. There will be a wine ordering table for anyone wanting other wines about a hour before dinner. Everyone in commerce these days appears to be in the fleecing business. But I did manage to get a reasonable venue at what is a good price..
This next para is important folks.
I will need those who are coming to confirm by sending me a cheque made out to the Pprune Fund for the price shown £25.50 pp. Send it to Pprune Fund, 5 Station Approach, Belmont, Surrey SM2 6BW.
AMENDMENT I feel that this far out some are reluctant to pay now. OK. As of now I will take your booking but I will need your cash 4-6 weeks BEFORE the event. I think that is the fairest way I can do it. So..........please e-mail me, or post, your booking ASAP then I will book you in. So all of you listed below who have said they are coming I have placed on the list below but do please confirm now. I do need to know the numbers.
The total number of places available is 75-80 – I can go up to 90 but I wait to see how it goes otherwise we may pay for something we don't get
If you arrive early there is a wonderful bar at the front of the hotel - The Chequers - very old. There is also a great restaurant therein where we have all dined at one time or another when we held the GatBash there.
That about covers it but if you have any questions please do ask me by PM or e-mail.
I promise you will enjoy it.

ello
Genghis the Engineer 31st Dec 2005, 15:25 It's in my diary, good call .
G
B Fraser 31st Dec 2005, 16:29 The diary says yes :ok:
HelenD 31st Dec 2005, 17:43 Count me in please.
Whirlybird 1st Jan 2006, 10:26 It's in the diary!
sixmilehighclub 1st Jan 2006, 11:27 Can I come? Please please please?????!!
Binoculars 1st Jan 2006, 16:06 I will most definitely NOT be there, IFR. ( I know how frustrating it is when people say they will definitely be there and at the last minute claim the roster has done them wrong, so I thought you would appreciate one absolute definite!)
However, if the following Bash is September 2007 or later I will be there, and that's a promise. :ok:
nosefirsteverytime 1st Jan 2006, 17:30 Put me down for a pre-college bash!
:ok:
Come on you students! I can't be the youngest going!
AerBabe 1st Jan 2006, 18:38 Probably. Definitely, if Wholi gives me more You-Know-What. :p
Binos - it would be lovely it you made it next year. Fingers crossed!
OzExpat 2nd Jan 2006, 05:05 if Wholi gives me more You-Know-What. :p
Shame on you Wholi! :} :D
AerBabe 2nd Jan 2006, 10:15 I sure do ... LAPIFC. :\
Binoculars 2nd Jan 2006, 11:21 Thank you for those kind words, AerBabe. What I need to do between now and then is assess how many people will be thinking "well, if that opinionated ars*hole from Oz is going, I'm staying away". The greater good for the greater number and all that.... ;) I may settle for a cash offer to stay away. :uhoh:
I'm determined to get to this one and I've written the date in my diary!! :D :D
Kolibear 5th Jan 2006, 11:40 I think that there is a very good chance that Mrs K & I will be attending.
The problem will be convincing her to wear one of the dresses that she has bought 'for the next Bash' rather than going out & buying a new one 'for the next Bash'.
PPRuNe Pop 5th Jan 2006, 13:25 Nah C! I have got a picture of her frock in 'the next bash' so it will have to be for 'the next bash!' :ouch:
Kolibear 5th Jan 2006, 13:31 Ah, but you haven't got a photo of her in the frock that she bought for this years Bash that didn't happen because it was last years Bash.
Not only that, but but the time I tell her this year's Bash is ON, then all the shops won't be stocking Posh Frocks, so she won't be able to use that excuse to buy a new dress so she'll have to wear last years Bash's frock for this years Bash. And as no one else has seen it, she won't have to worry about wearing the same dress twice. And its a sure-fire success in the C. C. Wholi, where's your camera??
ComJam 5th Jan 2006, 16:20 Aye, definately count me in! Probably the better half too :)
We can celebrate the King Air (Calibrator) Command i just got :D
Cheers!

AerBabe 5th Jan 2006, 17:52 Well done and God help us all! :ok:
Just remember to wear undies, please? :}
And you can put me down - makes me feel important having a diary date for September.
PPRuNe Pop 5th Jan 2006, 21:01 ComJam, many congrats on your command. I think you probably deserve it. What about my ride.
And..................btw! Better half!................is there something we should know? :E
PPP
aerobatic_dude 6th Jan 2006, 01:12 Can jot me down for 1 provisional anyway :)
ComJam 8th Jan 2006, 16:38 PPP, re better half...........not yet :)
PPRuNe Pop 12th Jan 2006, 11:58 IFR has gone for a long rest!!!!
Most of you know me as PPP as well as IFR and now that we have a new BB it was an opportune moment to standardise. So...........IFR has gone :{ :{ :{ hello PPRuNe Pop :E :O :ok:
OzExpat 13th Jan 2006, 13:41 RIP IFR, long live PPRuNe Pop! :ok: :ok: :ok:
Sorry D., but I still can't make it to a Gatbash... 23 September is just too late in the year for me to be in the UK. :{ :{ :{ But I think that I'll still be on for the usual August frivolity! :E
loubylou 14th Jan 2006, 19:12 defo there pop - subject to leave - being sorted as we speak
looking forward to it:p
louby
(comjam's (much!) better half)
ThreadBaron 15th Jan 2006, 20:38 As long as we are not out of the country celebrating the Baroness' rather big birthday, coincidentally the same day as the bash, we shall be there.:ok: ;)
ComJam 23rd Jan 2006, 21:40 It's all gone quiet on the GatBash front......
ThreadBaron 24th Jan 2006, 17:44 Coincidental with me saying we might be there!!:hmm:
Loony_Pilot 30th Jan 2006, 14:59 Count me in too :-))
sinala1 30th Jan 2006, 19:58 Will do the best I can to trek across from Oz to attend my first ever proon bash... :ok:
After I had to miss Threadbarons Croydon mini-bash due to work :* - would have been much easier to attend given I am still resident in the UK for one more week
Was there a 2005 gatbash? Don't remember seeing any posts for it.
Might try and make the 06 one. Bring Wino Jr with me. Got to start them early at the pub. After all the liver is a muscle...
Cheers
WIno
tall and tasty 31st Jan 2006, 23:53 I enjoyed myself at the last one so much, I would love to come, if I may, even if I am out of the area
TnT :ok:
Gerhardt 14th Feb 2006, 16:42 If T&T will be there that probably means I'm banned. Alas, perhaps next year.
tart1 14th Feb 2006, 16:58 Why Gerhardt what on earth have you done to her??
Gerhardt 15th Feb 2006, 12:06 Apparently chicks...ummm girls...errr ladies...don't like it when you snap their bra straps.
ExSimGuy 17th Feb 2006, 04:30 IFR - er, sorry - PPP,
Great news - especially the "revised timing". September 23rd is the day before the start of Ramadan, which these days is when I can get to take my "Summer" vacation :)
So I think there's a good chance that I'll be able to make this year - probably coming straight from the GF flight into LHR. (GF - Pleeese try not to delay me this year by losing my bags again ;) )
(Can't we get the LHR-LGW bus service to do a special drop-off that day??!!??)
Look forward to meeting the "oldies" and some of the "newies":ok:
OzExpat 17th Feb 2006, 07:12 23 September is normally a bit late in the year for me, but there is a slight possibility that I might be able to be there. How soon will I need to confirm (or bail), if I want to arrange accommodation in the area?
brockenspectre 17th Feb 2006, 10:13 Can't believe I haven't already said "Count me in" so Dear ProonPop please do so now!!! :ok: :E
sixmilehighclub 20th Feb 2006, 12:25 ...don't like it when you snap their bra straps.
whats a bra strap? :}
ExSimGuy 20th Feb 2006, 17:58 It's .. . . . . Oh,forget it!
tall and tasty 20th Feb 2006, 19:41 Apparently chicks...ummm girls...errr ladies...don't like it when you snap their bra straps.hmmmmmmmmmm well you may be speaking about most ladies, girls or whatever but my evening dresses don't allow me to wear bra straps.................. so Gerhardt why not come? :E
TnT
PPRuNe Pop 20th Feb 2006, 21:22 I would be most upset if I saw anyone tweaking bra straps. The ladies will be treated with dignity ;) :ok:
Brocky! Noted. ;)
Biggles Flies Undone 21st Feb 2006, 14:08 The ladies will be treated with dignity
Crikey, Don - have you banned Wholi? :E
ComJam 21st Feb 2006, 20:28 Maybe he's just banned Wholi's cameras :D
PPRuNe Pop 21st Feb 2006, 21:29 Nah! How can you keep an expert from demonstrating his skills? :E :ok:
OzExpat 24th Feb 2006, 11:16 Perhaps I should try again on this page :-

23 September is normally a bit late in the year for me, but there is a slight possibility that I might be able to be there. How soon will I need to confirm (or bail), if I want to arrange accommodation in the area?

Second time lucky... maybe?
ExSimGuy 24th Feb 2006, 13:36 OzEx - hopefully the "SaudExpat" can share a fine glass of Brown Nectar (not that "carp" Amber imitation-nectar-stuff) with you :E
OzExpat 1st Mar 2006, 07:23 Can't say that I like the chances of that happening ESG. I've now asked the question twice and been ignored twice. Clearly my presence at this event is not desired.:{
flower 1st Mar 2006, 11:05 OzExpat there will always be a welcome in the hillsides for you :D
PPRuNe Pop 1st Mar 2006, 12:42 OzEx my apologies I didn't see your question.
The answer = for you, any time up to a week out.
Bail out = if you have to no probs with timing.
I still haven't finalised any venue yet but hope to do so during this month. I think they are trying to make me nervous - but it won't work.
Cheers.
ExSimGuy 2nd Mar 2006, 06:15 Honestly OzExPat, we're totally racially unprejudiced and don't hold it against you that your grandpappy was shipped out to Ors-Bleedin-Strylyer in chains for sheep-rustling:E
(at least, I hope it was sheep rustling ;) )
Look forward to seeing yer there!!:ok:
ExSim
PPP - any idea of location yet? I'm deffo going to try to make it "on my way home to Sussex" from my flight into LHR
OzExpat 2nd Mar 2006, 13:04 Flower... thanks hon, I'm looking forward to it! :)
Pop... thanks for that. I have to shift a few other arrangements but it should all work out. The most likely scenario for me at this stage is that the date in question will be my final night in the UK, at the end of my hols. Thus, I'd need to check into a hotel close to the bash venue with all my baggage and, upon recovery the next day, proceed to LHR for the flight back to Oz, enroute back to here. I'll keep you informed as plans start coming together.
I'll even try to ensure that I'm armed with the dreaded "Bash Register"! :D
ESG... actually mate, my Gt Gt Grandad wasn't a convict but I have reason to suspect that his status was merely a matter of time. Had he stayed in England much longer, the Sheriff probably would've got him. There is, naturaly enough, a convict in the family tree - he married into my clan back in the 1800s after he'd gained his freedom and some respectability. He had the choice of going back to England or staying in the colony and decided that the colony was a better option. Hardly surprising, given that he'd be convicted of stealing a pocket watch and was sentenced to "transportation for life"!
Hope to catch up with you at the bash!:ok:
VC10 Rib22 6th Mar 2006, 15:14 I hereby let it be known that I am up for this Git, sorry, Gatbash shenanigans, and am very much looking forward to meeting each and every one of you.
VC10 Rib22
:ok:
ExSimGuy 7th Mar 2006, 11:51 OZEXPAT - Thus, I'd need to check into a hotel close to the bash venueI'll likely be on my first night of the hols, on my way from LHR to the South Coast.
As for the hotel, the bash will prob be in a hotel so, once the venue is arranged, I expect there'll be quite a few doing a "stopover" (not many red busses running around Crawley when the festivities "fizzle out" around 3 or 4 ack-emma ;)
OzExpat 8th Mar 2006, 07:11 Yes ESG, but I figured that there'd be so many others booking ahead of me to stay at the bash venue that I'd probably miss out there. Thus I thought it'd be more realistic to think in terms of another accommodation venue - hopefully one that is not too far away.
Jinkster 8th Mar 2006, 08:48 will see what i can do :D
ThreadBaron 15th Mar 2006, 18:38 OzEx
There's a bed in the Baronial Hall in Croydon should you so wish!:ok:
OzExpat 17th Mar 2006, 06:16 Thank you so very much for that ThreadBaron! I don't have my London A-Z handy, so don't know where Croydon is, in relation to rail services to LHR but, as I'll have plenty of time on the "recovery day" to figure that out, I am privileged to accept the offer. :ok:
pba_target 17th Mar 2006, 16:55 So being a gatbash novice, where are we looking at having it? any thoughts? If it's somewhere good count me in!
PPRuNe Pop 20th Mar 2006, 16:34 I am getting close to resolving the question a suitable venue. I am just awaiting the final offer from two hotels.
PPP
AerBabe 23rd Mar 2006, 07:41 Oh God ... that's where I first met Hugmonster and Send Clowns. :ok:
Rallygirl 25th Mar 2006, 07:12 I'd love to come too!! Count me in please provisionally for now till i get my leave confirmed.
PPRuNe Pop 28th Mar 2006, 05:45 PAGE 1 now contains the up to date position.
I am with the hotel people to-morrow and will report back with the final details after that.
PPP
scroggs 28th Mar 2006, 06:51 Don, as you know I'll be there if I can - roster permitting. It's also possible that I may be able to bring my lady, but we'll have to see.
AerBabe 28th Mar 2006, 07:09 Seems like you've got a really good deal on the food, Don. Shame about the parking charges though!
pba_target 28th Mar 2006, 11:05 can I suggest car sharing.... or is that a tad dangerous? I'll be driving from some distance to the west and north, so am happy to pick up anyone who is even remotely on the way there....
OzExpat 28th Mar 2006, 11:13 I haven't yet secured this year's leave but, as I'm sooooo confident that I'll be there (and I KNOW where PPP lives! :O ) shall attend to a bank cheque no later than the end of next week! :ok:
ThreadBaron... I shall contact you by PM the very minute that my travel arrangements are in place! :)
Edit: Oz mate, I know your difficulty with chqs, no need for all that. Are you coming up from CWL straight to the bash? If not what? Btw, your e-mail is not working! PPP
ExSimGuy 28th Mar 2006, 17:37 OKAAYYYY !!
So that's the 30th Sha'aban 1427(H) - (23 Sept 2006 to you unbelievers :0 )
Day before Ramadan starts. (Pity if the moon is sighted by the Audi Sarabians a day out, as last year, and the "faithful" have to drink Coke all evening :E and it also really pi$$es up the Arabic Calendar:suspect: )
Looks about "90%" for me at the moment but, not having a UK bank account these days, I can't send a check (cheque?)
(revise - there's a company take-over pending, so make that "80%")
Don, please keep us posted on the progress - as soon as I have a good certainty of it, I'll book, and probably get one of my kids in UK to provide a check (we can't do PayPal here either - only http://www.moneybookers.com - plug! Apparently Dubbya's "war on terror" means that Mid-East banks can't do PayPal:yuk: )
Really hope to see you all there, after about 3 years absence:ok: (and the "newbies", despite their higher number of "p00sts" than mine :{ )
ESG (Stu)
OzExpat 29th Mar 2006, 06:37 Hello Pop,
The way the plans are looking right now, I'll be coming to the Gatbash from NCL, right near the end of my holiday time. This means that we can probably have our customary get together either soon after my arrival in London (from Oz), or sometime between my return from NCL at the Gatbash - there'll probably be a few days lee-way for me in London in either case, though I haven't had time to make any definitive travel plans just yet. Whichever way it goes, there's a more than fair chance that we'll catch up before the Gatbash, so I can give you the money then.
I was just thinking that it'd be nice to send you the dough in advance, in case anything goes wrong with my travel plans. That way, at least you'd be sure to have at least one contribution to the PPRuNe Fund! :D
My ISP blocks mail from domains that stand accused of having an open portal which can be exploited by spammers. I know of only one domain in the UK that is affected by this - Freeserve - but there may be others. My other e-mail address is ozexpat@<hidden> and that doesn't block Freeserve.
PPRuNe Pop 29th Mar 2006, 12:23 OK Oz, look forward to that. Let us meet here - or the usual place - the day before - the garden should be good then and we can maybe get a couple of people over. You can stay the night and we can take you down to the hotel on Bash day. Would you like to work around that? Feel free mate - anything you want to do is fine whichever which way.
PPP
PPRuNe Pop 29th Mar 2006, 12:26 Heads up people. Please go to the beginning of this thread to see the final details. I am now taking bookings :)
PPP
OzExpat 30th Mar 2006, 12:14 Yes Pop, that's a great plan. I now have an embryo plan which shows that I'll return to London from NCL a couple of days before the bash. Will plan on catching up with you at the usual venue on Friday 22 September.
Probably better to discuss everything else by e-mail, so that the thread doesn't suffer, but the Friday night accommodation offer is very much appreciated! :ok: :)
PPRuNe Pop 16th Apr 2006, 22:18 Ummmmmmmmm! Is no-one coming after all then? ;)
I have not had one booking as yet. Was it something I said. :ok:
PPP
ThreadBaron 17th Apr 2006, 12:51 Not at all PPP! One's cheque will be in the post on the morrow! One has been busy counting the cost of one's latest sojourn to Oman, but I now find that the bank manager is just about agreeable to the Baroness and myself attending.:ok:
PPRuNe Pop 17th Apr 2006, 20:29 LOL. I look forward to it. ;)
PPRuNe Pop 20th Apr 2006, 09:25 Non arrival TB - so far! :E
ThreadBaron 21st Apr 2006, 07:22 The carrier with the cleft stick should be arriving at your door this very day! So that'll be me, you, our ladies and OzExPat .... sounds like a quiet night in. Sorry, no, not with Oz it won't be!!:ok:
PPRuNe Pop 21st Apr 2006, 13:50 Thank you TB, I now have it. :ok:
OzExpat 24th Apr 2006, 08:19 Hi Pop, the only thing that's likely to prevent my attendance is if "the powers that be" refuse to grant my leave. That's most unlikely. :ok:
PPRuNe Pop 24th Apr 2006, 14:58 Nice one 'ell! ;)
ATCbabe 28th Apr 2006, 13:17 Count me in grandpa Don
babe
PPRuNe Pop 28th Apr 2006, 17:51 You betcha! Good on yer Caz. My fave Scottish lass with the big............you know I wouldn't doncha. You wanna give me a call? You too Cleo. Got an idea.
PM me.
PPP
Whirlybird 28th Apr 2006, 18:09 Don, I'm confused. My name is on your list, but I haven't booked! At least, I don't think I have. Is my memory even worse than usual? Did I book and forget? Or have you mixed me up with my good friend Whirlygig, as people do? Or is some nice person paying for me, and hasn't told me yet? And if so, is he tall, dark, rich......
Please tell me before my fantasies extend to the two of us eloping to an island in the sun in the EC135 he's just bought for me.... :)
PPRuNe Pop 28th Apr 2006, 21:13 Well dear lady in post No 6 you said, and I quote, 'It's in the diary' - not quite a booking but then you always do come don't you! X
We all have fantasies - mine are getting better, which must mean I am getting older! ;)
Whirlybird 29th Apr 2006, 08:43 Awwww, Don....and there I was getting all excited. You mean I've got to actually send you a cheque, all by my little self? But yes, it IS in the diary, I WILL book someday, and yes, I do always come, don't I? And I do rather like being the near the top of the list. So thanks, and cheque will be in the post....in good time as usual. :)
Wholigan 29th Apr 2006, 09:27 Oh - all right then. Put me down Don. Camera's feeling lonely.
ExSimGuy 29th Apr 2006, 17:39 PPP - check your @<hidden> email.
Hopefully the email will be read within a week or two, and the check (Stirling) will depart from Sussex shortly after (kids! They are always toooo busy!!)
ExSim
ATCbabe 29th Apr 2006, 18:56 Don u old goat!!!!!:p :8 You are such gent not too ;)
Pop
Just wondering how much we could raise if you 'put Wholigan down' at the event!
Does the condemned man have a preferred method?
Wholigan 30th Apr 2006, 10:03 Well Cleo, just as long as the method doesn't involve any sort of bondage and ill-treatment by any of the ladies present!
(What do you mean - is that the same as "don't throw me into that briar patch"?)
ThreadBaron 30th Apr 2006, 12:22 One thinks more money would be raised by having an auction for an hour wth the key to your renowned cellar Wholi!!:}
DX Wombat 30th Apr 2006, 13:32 I'm still not too sure about the date but I will probably make it. However, why are you trying to poisonl me with shellfish? They make me ill. :{ :{ :{
TB, you may get the KEY for an hour but it does not necessarily mean you will get to sample the contents. :E
Cleo, there is one small, or rather very large, snag to having Wholi put down - our furry friend:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/DX_Wombat/P1010192.jpg.
He'si a bt big for the tin tent and my garden isn't very big either :( Perhaps we could arrange a three way share: you me and TNFH for four months each in rotation?
OzExpat 1st May 2006, 07:21 I'll apply myself to thinking about a really good "put down" for Wholli! It'll have to be a good one, of course, coz it's likely to mean war...:}
ExSimGuy 1st May 2006, 18:28 Just had confirmation from Junior-Ex-Sim in UK - the check will be leaving for you in the morning.
Look forward to seeing the gang again this year :ok:
PPRuNe Pop 1st May 2006, 19:29 Thanks Stu.
ExSimGuy 1st May 2006, 19:37 No Don - Thanks to you for all the work you put into organising the do every time :)
AerBabe 1st May 2006, 19:55 Thanks for putting our names on the list, Don. I'm really busy & can't get my act together for a few more days, but we will be there and you will get paid!
No problem!
ATCbabe 1st May 2006, 22:18 No change there then aerbabe!!!!;)
Don can i second dx's hate of shellfish???? Hate the things:yuk: :yuk: ..... maybe a nice bowl of soup ?? or melon???? or basically anything else but shellfish???
please, please, please???????
Cleo, why give wholi a choice? I'm sure we can come up with a sure fire method to "eliminate" him :E :E
Ozzy, AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!
Whirlybird 2nd May 2006, 04:32 Don,
Can I third the hate of shellfish - they make me ill!!!!!!!!!!
Also, the vast majority of vegetarians - including yours truly - don't eat fish. Salmon is NOT an acceptable vegetarian alternative!!!!!!!!!!!! I hadn't looked at the menu; now I have....I think I'd better bring some sandwiches. :{
In fact, I'm now seriously reconsidering whether I should come at all. :{ :{
PPRuNe Pop 2nd May 2006, 05:31 I am sure I can arrange something. Never had a problem with Salmon as an alternative before! However, I will arrange soup or something for starter - not a problem - and something else for main course, also not a problem.
Don't panic  :ok:
So.............I have three so far, any more for veggie?
DX Wombat 2nd May 2006, 07:44 It's just the shellfish I have a problem with, I'm not a veggie so the overgrown chook is fine for me and I LOVE Brussels sprouts :D I don't think ATCBabe is a veggie either.
ExSimGuy 2nd May 2006, 10:29 I LOVE Brussels sprouts :D .
Umm, well, not too sure about that - didn't like them when I was a kid, but then I'm not a kid any more!
As for the "shellfish" - depends on what they are - I can be a bit "discretionary" when it comes to the term "seafood", as I'm not too keen on anything with "tentacles and suckers":yuk: , though whelks and suchlike stuff that comes in shells are no problem ;)
Anyway, no real problems for me,and glad we have it sorted out for the "veggie-oddities" ;)
Looking forward to it - could be the highlight of my year - I really need to get out (of Audi Sarabia!) more :E
Now back to my suggestions a couple of years back that the Ground Engineers arrange for a surplus "exit chute" that we can rig into the swimming pool - Ideal concept for the "RAF Types", and I'm certainly up for the "double-somersault-and-single-twist" demo of the correct way to exit the aircraft (or 2nd floor hotel window) down the slide and into the pool:8
Remember, "wimps" - breakfast is to be taken in the bar at around 11:00 and is to consist of liquids only (okay - solids in the form, of Panadols washed down with "suitable liquids" then!)
Yippeeee!
ATCbabe 3rd May 2006, 18:29 Your right dx, I'm def not a veggie. l like my "fresh meat" way too much!!!:oh: :oh: ;)
DX Wombat 3rd May 2006, 21:19 - breakfast is to be taken in the bar at around 11:00 and is to consist of liquids only (okay - solids in the form, of Panadols washed down with "suitable liquids" then!)I suppose I better start to build up a suitably enormous stock of Paracetamol now for dispensing to the needy. :ooh: :( You needn't think I'm going to purchase the expensive brand-named stuff when there is plenty of "Paracetamol BP" available and equally as effective.
ATCBabe have you developed a liking for sprouts yet?
OzExpat 4th May 2006, 08:47 Ozzy, AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!
I can hardly believe it Babe!
And, while people are talking about food choices Pop, can you ask them if there'll be enough stuff of a gluten-free variety? I'm fine with shellfish and, in fact, ANY fish, so long as the chef doesn't muck around with embellishments that contain gluten. Those who know me, know of my fetish for sushi and the like!:}
ExSimGuy 4th May 2006, 13:12 Oh Boy! we're getting the Food Police and the Puritans in here now!
So let's solve the problem:-
First course - Port (with Stilton for the non-vegians, you lot can smother it with blueberry juice)
Second course - A gallon of Guinness (with beef for "regular" people and with spuds for veggies)
Desert - Mixed Fruit, soaked in Brandy (for everyone except those who are allergic to fruit)
And then we can get on with the main objective - getting trashed :E
DX - You are hereby nominated as PPRuNe dispenser of comforts - be prepared to stay awake all night to make "mercy missions" to the various hotel rooms where you may be needed:{
timmcat 4th May 2006, 15:52 DX - You are hereby nominated as PPRuNe dispenser of comforts - be prepared to stay awake all night to make "mercy missions" to the various hotel rooms where you may be needed
Just don't call 'Nursey!' - you might end up requiring further treatment... :\
ATCbabe 4th May 2006, 18:51 ATCBabe have you developed a liking for sprouts yet?
Dx,
:yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk:
Babe
brockenspectre 5th May 2006, 22:59 Ozmaaaaaaaaaate -- if my previous experience (like yourself a coeliac of umpteen years' standing) is anything to go by you will just have to pick/choose from those options that appear to be gluten-free. These airport hotels are not designed to manage dietary needs .... as PPRuNePop and others will attest, the brockie has never been seen to go hungry :ok: :E BTW when you gonna advise of your arrival date? At the mo, you may have gather, one is hors de combat due possible drug induced parkinsonism, but one intends to be in fighting trim (or not-so-trim) by Aug/Sep :ok: :E
enicalyth 6th May 2006, 06:36 I shall be there. ozexpat I should have the centaurus-engined pawbook by then. threadbaron I am trying to think of an aircraft for you. brockyhmm, still not got a dogalina. any sign of redders?
PS for those in the know - the new job, urghh!
OzExpat 8th May 2006, 07:20 Babe... I hope we're not going to have our first disagreement over the sprouts! :}
Yes Brockie, I'd already accepted the necessity for the said picking and choosing when I first stated my intent to be there. But, seeing as others piped up with their dietary needs, thought I'd just jump on the bandwaggon! :D
Still working on the travel plan but should have it sorted in another week or 2.
enicalyth... look forward to catching up with you again this year. Seems that so much has happened since then, so we'll have much to catch up on. I'll be sure to leave space in my baggage for the "voluminous tome", thanks! :ok:
PPRuNe Pop 12th May 2006, 21:29 I would love to see some of the avid GatBashers put their names down. Need to build this one with only 4 1/2 months to go.
Please folks get in now.
PPP
flybywire 15th May 2006, 07:03 Ooooohhhhhhh!! I would love to come!!! the 23 september is also my birthday!! :E
It all depends on a few things at the moment (no leave available at the moment!) but I really have to meet VC10 Rib22 at some point.........:E
fbw:ok:
OzExpat 15th May 2006, 10:59 Hi Pop!
I'm just about in a position to confirm the following parts of my travel plans :-
Arr LHR 17 Aug
Remain in London until 22 Aug
Arr LHR 21 Sep
Remain in London until 26 Sep.
There's scope in there for us to meet up in August, or September (whichever is more convenient for you), so that I can pay my way. :ok:
PPRuNe Radar 15th May 2006, 11:07 At least the Bombay Sapphire factory can gear up for full production with some certainty now :ok:
PPRuNe Pop 15th May 2006, 12:12 Well done OzX
And, of course the Radar of PPRuNe will be there - WON'T YOU!!!!!!!:D ;)
OzExpat 16th May 2006, 07:45 Who's going to join me for a pre-bash bash at The Chequers bar, prior to the main event? :D
PPRuNe Pop 16th May 2006, 10:50 Jan and me! We'll have to 'cos you won't get there otherwise! :E :E
OzExpat 17th May 2006, 07:06 Very good point Pop!
And I greatly appreciate the generous and noble sacrifice that you and Jan will be making for me! ;)
I see that we still don't have a clear indication of attendance by the stealthy Mod... :}
ThreadBaron 17th May 2006, 08:56 The Baroness and I will also adorn the pre-bash bash!:ok:
If flybywire attends the main do, that is three birfdays that day.
PPRuNe Pop 17th May 2006, 08:58 He'll be there! :E
And my wife's too TB! That makes four. :D :D
Folks. OzX has reported the fact that the hotel have wanted to charge more per room than that agreed. That is wrong.
The hotel is under contract to supply us with 30 rooms at £69 and £79 for single or double room. But..........you should make it clear that the date is for the PPRuNe function and if they still toss around tell them to speak to Emma,
PPP
ExSimGuy 17th May 2006, 10:23 Who's going to join me for a pre-bash bash at The Chequers bar, prior to the main event? :D Well, GF007 gets into LHR at about 06:30, allow an hour for collecting bags (if they didn't lose them ;) ) and a couple of hours for the inter-airport bus to LGW, I should be there somewhere around 10:00, just as the bar opens . . . . .
:E
(BFU - don't you dare say a word . . . :ugh: )
(And is the Dragon Mod coming???)
Bluesteel705 17th May 2006, 13:49 Thats a nice hotel, been there myself once. And as someone in the hotel industry, it seems theyve given you a pretty good price for a London (ish) hotel.
OzExpat 18th May 2006, 06:39 Just for the benefit of other folks who may want to book a room from long distance, it's impossible to get the PPRuNe rate in an on-line booking. I've not found an e-mail address for direct contact and, indeed, have only found phone numbers. To try phoning them from this far away will undoubtedly erode the entire difference between the PPRuNe rate and the online rate. :uhoh:
Editted to add the following because I hit the "post reply" button before realising the need for a further comment :-
ESG... You might be there a tad earlier than me. I'll liaise with my "chauffer" for an ETA and let you know.
Edit:I have added an e-mail address on the start page. PPP
brockenspectre 18th May 2006, 18:33 PPRunePOP -- got room booked OK and having carted envelope with cheque around all day one shall post same to your good self on the morrow!! :ok:
What time is the Pre-Bash-Bash gonna be? One shall take hound to kennels for overnight sojourn in the morning so one can be at the venue by lunchtime? Will that suffice?
Disclaimer -- all is subject to self not becoming worse off than one is now with trembling, shaking, and other pseudo-parkinsonian post-anaesthesia bo11ox !!! :E :E
OzExpat 19th May 2006, 07:34 Many many thanks, Pop, for your assistance, it's made all the difference in the world to me. :ok:
I'm very much looking forward to this, to meet all the folks that I haven't met during my previous invasions (especially Babe! :D ), as well as to catch up with everyone that I haven't seen in a year or more! :ok:
As to the timing of the pre-bash bash, Brocky, I reckon it'll start from the time that the first Prooner arrives! :D Based on his most recent post to date, I guess that ESG will be the first to arrive. I'm advised that the ETA for Pop, Mrs Pop and self will be midday-ish.
I can't wait!
PPRuNe Pop 20th May 2006, 05:46 Actually OzX it just might be a LOT earlier like 0900
The reason will become clear in due course.
And folks, I have arranged for non-meat soup and melon to be included in the starter menu for those who are not keen on shellfish.
i will also require those who want a VEGETARIAN MEAL to please let me know soonest.
DX Wombat 20th May 2006, 09:06 Actually OzX it just might be a LOT earlier like 0900  PPP you should have either said that very, very quietly or arranged for someone in PNG to be available to resuscitate him when he reads it - he doesn't DO 09:00 when he's over here on holiday. :uhoh:
OzExpat 20th May 2006, 10:11
Methinks that DX knows me MUCH too well! :uhoh:

PPRuNe Pop 22nd May 2006, 21:06 OK Slim but I will wait to see if you are a probable.
There is likely to be a mad rush at some time. ;)
Watch out for a new and improved menu due to-morrow. (NOW!)

I seem to remember that in regressive UK bars don't open until 10 ack-emma:{
Oh well, can get pleasantly sozzled on the bus from LHR and fall asleep in reception for an hour (I guess that earliest check-in is mid-day?) and then have a "post-pre-Bash nap" after lunch, to get over the red-eye from BAH
Leave next morning on US99 LGW-PHL to meet up with "Effo the Effay" - pity she can't be there but she's sworn off the booze. Back 2 weeks later if here's anything going on in Londinium (until about 28 October)
Depart US99 at 12:30 - check-in time about 10:30 I guess (plus allow time for the usual "random security check" on the baggage - I come in from Mid-East!) - anyone else on that flight? How long for hotel courtesy bus to get to LGW?
tall and tasty 11th Jun 2006, 21:18 How long for hotel courtesy bus to get to LGW?To be honest that hotel is within walking distance of the airport so it should take no longer that 30 mins once you have visited all the other hotels if you go on the coach hopper, or if the hotel has its own then about 10 mins max depending on traffic

One of my "wheelie" suitcases usually runs to about 35-40kg and the other 25, add the laptop bag, briefcase, the golf clubs, and a load of DFs - I think I'll get the bus:E

I live next door and with an early check-in have to rely on taxis to LGW. It doesnt cost more than £5 from the North terminal....so unless you are a bus spotter just call Carline Taxis and save yourself the hassle of taking a bus!
moosp 13th Jun 2006, 13:57 PP Pop, is there room for one more? Will arrive with a thirst and leave with headache.

Sagey 17th Jun 2006, 15:31 Hi Don,
Just thought that I would drop you a quick note to say that I will have to sit this one out as I am shortly leaving for NZ and all the hard work that goes with it on the CTC Wings cadet course. I am sure that it will be another great night for all of those party goers.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the organising over the years, particularly with the seminars - I attended the original set in June/July 2001 and although it has taken a rather long time for me to get there, all of the events etc have been invaluable.
All the best,
Sagey
PPRuNe Pop 17th Jun 2006, 19:38 Thank you Sagey. Hope you have good time in Kiwi land. We love it there. Whether we get to go back again is another matter.

I blame the haircut on "Larry and Barry", my SIL's favorite gay hairdressers in PHL - be warned - be VERY warned! It's back to normal now! But stay away from Larry & Barry - I had to use a ("itinerant female") room-mate's hair gel when we got down to Cancun for daughter's wedding, to stop my double-crown sticking up like a duck's butt:eek:
PPRuNe Pop 23rd Jun 2006, 13:47 Hamil, just get pen to paper with names (or PPRuNe names) and I will add you in. I will start needing cheques for confirmations now so your's will be £102.

Charlie Zulu 25th Jul 2006, 19:21 I'm trying to find the changing of name by depol section of pprune... Missus ATC Babe, do you know where it is located? :)
ATCbabe 26th Jul 2006, 00:37 Charlie Zulu,
Why you changing your name by depoll??? Much easier to change it thro adoption. You just need to find someone willing to adopt you.......;) ;)
Don consider him told... he suitably quaking in his boots !!!:E :E
Charlie Zulu 26th Jul 2006, 01:23 Is that your way of proposing to me for I can change my name when we're locked by the bounds of marriage? ;) ;)
You'll have to do better than that for a proposal, I shall wait until Rome. :)
Pan Pan Splash 26th Jul 2006, 08:54 Dresscode of the day, for chaps inclined that way,
is a black bra, stockings and suspenders,
My friend looks a mess in his calf length dress.

Whirlybird 26th Jul 2006, 09:26 Don't know why I'm back on the list, as I still don't think I can make it. :{ :{ :{
ExSimGuy 26th Jul 2006, 10:08 Ah Shoot
Another of the "better-looking-persuasion" dropping out. First Helen, now Whirls.
I'm just gonna have to get p1$$ed
(I was probably going to do that anyway:E )
Whirlygig 26th Jul 2006, 15:42 Er no! I'm still going but my very good rotary friend Whirly can't. Sadly. We're easy to tell apart - Whirly has a red PT and Whirls has a blue one!
Cheers
Whirls
Looking forward to this shindig - been a while since I went to a bash and this time I'm bringing an Irish 'wannabe' mate so..... lock up your animals.
VFE.
ExSimGuy 27th Jul 2006, 05:05 Whirly has a red PT and Whirls has a blue one!
As long as everyone who comes remembers to wear their PT, there'll be no confusion then:E
SmilingKnifed 28th Jul 2006, 00:55 Can anyone give me some good gen on where to stay? I'm up for the Wannabes' day out and staying on that day for the Gatbash.

SK
ExSimGuy 28th Jul 2006, 02:28 Check back to page 1 of this thread. PPP has negotiated a good rate with the hotel where we are having the GatBash.
Limited numbers though - but may still have some of the discount rooms available. Make sure they understand that it's for the night before the Bash (I would hope you will still get "the rate") intead of, or as well as, the night of the Bash.
C U there!
pjdj777 28th Jul 2006, 07:44 Hmmm dress code for the day.
The new Mrs PJ has bought a new dress for the evening, it's a bit posh really.
I'll be wearing a smile, and if I can get up to speed, my brand new Paul Reed Smith 20th Ann Std24. Umm, that's a guitar by the way.
Pops. Booking the rooms today and a check will be winging it's way to you.
Cheers
HelenD 30th Jul 2006, 08:06 Funds have been found and myself and my other half will be able to make it to the bash, I have put the cheque in the post today so provided Royal mail are performing you should have it by Tuesday. (Dont think we have a Sunday collection in our area).
PPRuNe Pop 30th Jul 2006, 12:41 Good news Helen. See you and Rob there.
ATCbabe 6th Aug 2006, 21:21 Hi Don,

Jinkster 9th Aug 2006, 08:59 DOn,
Hotel booked and confirmed! Free WiFi at the Hotel :E
OzExpat 9th Aug 2006, 12:24 FREE wi-fi!!! What a ripper! I'll be able to post the bash piccies as soon as I sober up!:E
Hmmm... on second thought, I probably won't be sober very soon afterwards... :O
ExSimGuy 9th Aug 2006, 12:28 WiFi -That's useful to know. As I'm arriving in LHR on a "red-eye", I'll be there by about 10 a.m. and I can maybe get some work done during the day
(better than getting ratted from the time the bar opens - I'd be out of it by the time dinner is served :E )
Or maybe I'll be too sh@<hidden> by the time I arrive from a 2300Z take-off that I'll just browse PPRuNe from the time I arrive until I can get into my room and sleep all afternoon
BTW, Don - I know they have a "crash-helmet ban" there, but are goggles and a flying helmet okay? :oh:
ExSimGuy 9th Aug 2006, 12:32 WiFi - Another thought - does anyone have/know of software that'll run on a PC to do a webcast froma lappy in the hotel? :O
I think it was suggested about 3 years ago but, with a WiFi connection it would be presumably very simple (like me ;) )
Maybe it would even run from an I-Mate?
Jinkster 14th Aug 2006, 22:37 Ex-Sim Guy,
You got a ride to Gatwick from LHR?
PPRuNe Pop 21st Aug 2006, 10:50 Thanks to all those who have sent me their cheques. All noted and actioned.
To those who have not yet sent theirs, I must have them by 1st September. That is important.
I will have to pay the hotel shortly and I will be paying for you.
Soonest please.
PPP
AerBabe 21st Aug 2006, 13:33 PPP ... have you had ours?
PPRuNe Pop 21st Aug 2006, 15:26 Got it this morning! Ta.
Kolibear 22nd Aug 2006, 13:30 PPP - have you received a cheque from us too?
AerBabe 22nd Aug 2006, 15:58 Oh no... I didn't know you were coming.
Can I have a refund, PPP?
PPRuNe Pop 22nd Aug 2006, 20:18 KB - you were one of the first. You winding me up?? :=
PPRuNe Pop 30th Aug 2006, 17:10 The numbers have dropped back a bit, which is sad.
However, I sent out about 30-40 PM's to past and present supporters of the bash but to date I have had only 8 back all of whom cannot make it. For one reason or another.
I would like to hear from you if you have time and I would like others to come. We have a good crowd but we can do with 10-20 more.
You will not be sorry - it WILL be good - it always is!

Boy - Am I looking forward to it, after 6 weeks in DOH (beer at around 5 quid a pint at the only half dozen bars in the country :\) It'll make the Thistle's beer seem cheap
Hopefully I'll just about get this job finished in time to rush back to Audi Sarabia to dump "work suitcase" and pick up the "vacation" one:)
See you all there :ok:
Probably just another one Don. Cannot get hold of him tho (he's just about to start line training) but he did express interest at the weekend so I'll keep trying his number.
VFE.
DX Wombat 11th Sep 2006, 15:17 No rooms left so digs is the obvious way.
PPPIf you are a member of the Caravan Club you could do as I am doing and take your caravan or mobile home to their Amberley Fields site nearby.
WARNING! All members of the PPRuNe Anti-Caravan Group should be aware that my caravan will be fully armed against any form of skullduggery. :E :E :E
AerBabe 12th Sep 2006, 07:52 You mean you'll be hurling your lovely cheese and apple sandwiches at intruders?
