I know of the recent 787 orders for QF mainline, with the intention of scrapping the 767s. Can someone shed some light on which other aircraft the 787s are likely to replace? ie are the 737s and A330s being replaced by the 787 too? Or is QF gonna operate them alongside the 787?

Also, is the A380 replacing the 747, or are they gonna operate together?

:p

it is true that the 767's need replacement as do a few others...actually quite a few others but I don't think the 787 is a replacement for the 767..more likely the main weapon for J* international

The 787 is replacing the 767. Probably replacing the A330 too.

I doubt it will replace the 737. Too big.

Slim, the initial order replaces the 767. It may also be seen as a classic replacement as well but there was certainly nothing about that in the press release.

I'd say that some of the options will be used to phase out some of the 744 fleet but my suspicion is that like the A330 a few years back, you'll see an order in 3-5 years for 30-50 airframes to look at replacing the 744. Whether they go with 777 or 747-8 will depend on a bunch of different things.

In short, expect another order for aircraft to 'replace' the remaining 744s in the next 3-5 years.
