Now, that the IR is getting their act together with computer almagamations etc, I understand that it is the intention of the IR to have investigated all SE people by 2012. Yep, and they're likely to have done it by then too. So beware all you tax dodgers, the tax hounds are on the loose - of course, forcing more and more honest people into criminality, in order to survive.:\

Whence came this little gem then ??----anyway, it might be a nice thought but with the track record of any Gov't IT programme being less than the square root of f££k all squared methinks 2112 might be a more realistic date !

Earlier this year (my 74th) I entered into a contract to do a project for an airline which promised to bring in some retirement scotch coupons. On the same day a half-page spread in the newspapers, placed by Customs and Revenue, proclaimed that as of that day anyone doing private work must register as being self-employed. I phoned the number, stated my intentions and said that I wished to register (I have no desire to spend time in one of HM prisons or incur a hefty fine). The guy who answered the phone was unintelligible, unintelligent and inarticulate - I excused him because it was probably his first day in his job and he perhaps he hadn't been properly briefed by his superiors or read the papers that day. However, he promised to send me a registration package. Nine months later I'm still waiting.

My accountant's reaction was, "What?"

I've tried to be an honest, upright citizen, but can I prove it in court? Probably not.
