Although it was about 10 years ago, my instructor got called by cathay when he was Grade 2 (Australia). I don't know anything more but as a Grade 2 instructor, about to become Grade 1, he probably had only about 1500 hours I think. No jet time, very few Airline experience on Piston twin.
May be he was just lucky, but there is small possibility to get called with minimal experience as long as you meet all minimam requirements.
