If this report is true I think it is probably one of the most disturbing situations of recent times for the UK. Twice in the last century the USA has come to aid us in our fight for freedom and both times against a European foe. Even our so called ally across the Channel spends much of its time mocking us. Whether one agrees or not with all of their policies and style, the USA certainly takes defence far more seriously than the Continentals, whose approach the UK seems to be in danger of embracing. No military force is perfect, even we must now accept that, but would we not be casting the lessons of history aside if we failed to make every effort to maintain our American relationship.
