Do any of you Ppruners have/have access to electronic images/mpegs of FOD (Foreign Object Debris/Damage) and its effects, especially aero engine damage.

I'm putting some briefs together and thought that you at the coal face may have some goodies.

It would be no bad thing to post them here anyway, me thinks ?

Thanks in anticipation,

Ginge:ok:

Thanks fellas, the DASC was one that I was already onto however, the FODNews is a new one to me, cheers.

Anyone have personal pix of events/incidents which may be of use, out of the ordinary and less well known perhaps ?

Ginge,

...or look up the Air France Concorde crash in June 2005.
Caused by FOD from a previously departed jet IIRC. :(

Just make sure you use the term "Fodfather" in your presentation - that will make everyone sit up and listen!!! (Or is it just me........:E )

Does anyone remember that safety video, often shown to visitors to stations with the woman in the black hat and raincoat? Wasn't it the FOD detective or something?

Learn the FOD language it's easy to pick up.

And other classics.

Does anyone remember that safety video, often shown to visitors to stations with the woman in the black hat and raincoat? Wasn't it the FOD detective or something?

Wasn't it called "Dr.FOD and Miss Wayward body."

As she slithers into the lightning intake. mhmmmmmmmmm

I'm probably wrong but wasn't the MiG 29 prang at Paris '89 down to FOD as well? If so, there are video clips of that (and Anatoly Kvotchur's remarkable escape) around on the Net.

And how about a pic of Dr FOD here?

No, not Dr FOD, let's have a picture of the delicious 'wayward body'!

The MiG29 crash was caused, IIRC, by bird ingestion at low IAS and high AoA, causing an engine to lose thrust. The automatic parameter monitoring seat definitely saved the pilot when it subsequently assessed RoD against height and attitude and decided "Out you go, tovarich!". It's a very clever bit of kit.

Ah I thought Dr FOD was the woman but now I re-read the original comment... (You should meet my Doctor, I have to feign illness!)

Bird was it? I knew something unintended had gone in through an intake, hadn't realised it was feathered and flapped!

Definately a bird. Also remember the MiG-29 (and Su-27) has anti-FOD screens over the intakes which only retract when more than taxi power is selected.

As the poor bugger that is the fodfather, feel free to send me an e-mail and I have a whole load of rubbish that I can send you. I have video clips on FOD coming out of my backside. This invitation is open to anyone who needs FOD info. Also you might want to check out www.nafpi.com as a good resource for FOD stuff.

Regarding poor old Miss Wayward Body, I'm told the video has officially now been banned, surprise surprise. Although after 3 years searching I might have finally found a copy next to Fly Fishing by JR Hartley.

FodFather - I have the video of Dr FOD and the Wayward Body, still watch it regularly:8 . Also got the one of the woman in the flasher mack and hat... and worse...some real pre pre pc stuff:ouch:

If you want copies before you leave the post John - then do let me know.

How typical of the PC to$$ers that they should 'ban' DR FOD and the Wayward Body.....

Surely it's discrimination to ban a fine actor's/actress' work from the screen? Very un-pc....

I don't think I ever saw Dr FOD.... I remember the flasher mac and hat woman though - I think that was called "The Fod Detective"?

Was that it - The FOD Detective. I used to show it once a month at the station induction brief. One occasion when I wasn't available I asked my deputy to do it... Dead simple, just show the video and when it stops ask if there are any questions.

Apparently, all went well until the FOD Detective took her clothes off. A female officer was incensed by what she had been shown, castigated the poor chap (who defended himself by telling her that I had told him to show it :\) and made an official complaint to Harry Staish.

The FOD brief became a rather boring 5 min talk from me after that :bored:
