Missing after minimising

Help!!

I've been asked to sort out a problem on a friends PC, and I'm very baffled.
Whenever an open window is minimised, the icon no longer appears on the lower taskbar. I've checked all the taskbar settings, and I can't find anything wrong.

Any help or ideas very gratefully received.

This is not really a resolution.....Hold down ALT and press TAB, each press of tab should scroll through each of the open applications. If it's not doing that, then he/she has a bigger problem.
