S'me again.

I have almost given up on trying to find a way to turn on the fill in line function, and remember passwords etc. There must be something hiding away that is stopping this useful function.

I am using earthlink dial up, and it seems to go okay, but about the time that I installed the soft, I was unable to find anyway to resolve the above problem.

I would appreciated any help, and don't be afraid to go back to basics...I must be missing something!!! LR:confused:

Dou yourself a favour and download Opera here (http://www.opera.com/). It is a lot more secure and functions such as WAND, their password manager, are really easy to use. Deleting private data such as your cache and history is also simple. IE is a bloated nightmare. :mad:

As effortless says, go for Opera (or Firefox + Thunderbird)

In addition to previous, there is a separate 'Turn AutoComplete on/off', via 'Change preferences' in 'Search' (on the Start Menu).

Wouldn't you think that that's what it was going to be? I had never notised that switch!!!

But it was set on:{

Opera looks good, but I don't like to be beaten. I would like to find out what's happening before moving on.

Where is the data stored. Is it in any way cookie derived? we get rid of most stuff at the end of each session of course. i had always assumed that it was a quite separate part of the OS but now i'm clutching at straws.

Ah, ..............................still no luck(!).

No, you can forget clearing everything out at the end, cookies etc.; should not be relevant, do it all the time at this end.

Are you by any chance using IE 5 or 5.5 (?), if so take a look at THIS (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q306895). ...Even if you are not, there are references that still seem to apply to the later versions, i.e., 'Protected Storage' in 'Services'. ...There is some more specific info on 'Protected Storage' HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=885180)

For additional suggestions for IE 5.5 & 6, take a look at THIS (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329156).

Finally, there is a guy on a forum HERE (http://experts.about.com/q/1054/3771537.htm) with a similar problem. ...The links in the answer are similar to above, but there is mention at the end to a downloadable scripting repair file from Microsoft which you may want to go looking for if all else fails (?).

Good luck!

Why bother? IE is ****e Opera is a more secure, easier to use and doesn't embed itself in your system in such a way that if it gets corrupted it screws you OS up. Above all it isn't MicroSoft. Keep IE in case you find a site that won't work, like NatWest. When you do find one e-mail them and complain.
