"Aircraft cabins of the rich and (in)famous" - I don't think this will have the legs of What Cockpit, but I thought it may be interesting while it lasts:

And here's a clue for the first one:

Adolf Hitler

Focke-Wulf Fw-200 Condor

Correct, and appropriately prompt! All yours, JDK.

I thank you!

I vaguely remember reading that Hitler had a parachute integral to his seat, and your "(in)famous" was a clue, and the interior looked like a Fw-200 when I thought about it.

What luck. Fun idea. It's going to be a challenge to keep going!

OK, not a place of anyone 'famous' or 'infamous' but the non-cockpit spot for many brave chaps aboard a number of aircraft used by the RAF, RAAF, USAAF, RNZAF, RCAF (and so on).

I'm looking for what it is, and extra points for where and as rough as you like, to the nearest year, when. Serial number, self evident from getting the above gets smart@ss points.

Curved plexiglass, manual winder, exposed levers (nice welding!), matte black everywhere - is it some sort of turret?

JDK

Correct!

There's a MG breech (not visible) off to our left. .303 Browning, not surprisingly.

It's a BIG turret too. An early type...

Is it the gun turret of a Bolton Paul Defiant ?

Clint.

Judging by the angle of the base of the perspex and the position of the parked (or flying? :ooh: ) truck, I'd say a tail turret on a tail dragging bomber, and not a seaplane. It's electrically powered, but has solid side panels, so maybe not a Lancaster. Early Lancs had 2 x .303 in the tail, though, I think...

Howdy Clint.

Appologies for the delay, Proone was down when I tried to post earlier.

Thanks chaps!

Mr Grubby, no, not a Defiant. Defiant turret isn't BIG (that's a clue chaps...)

The Defiant turret looks like:

Hi RJM, excellend deductions, but not a Lanc, and this example is not in the UK and is the sole flying example of the type in the world.

Beaufort, Battle, Boston...does it start with 'B'?

Brilliant Beags, your go. :ok:

But I think you may have been slightly blinded at your own brilliance, so as to miss the high score of the 'where' and 'when'. :E

Care to complete, after you post the next one?

For those that care, Boulton Paul Type C turret, 2 x .303 Browning machine guns. Took brave men to see a cannon armed adversary from this goldfish bowl.

Sorry RJM, it's gone now. Annoying eh?

Tried to join in, but a spot of work intervened. The last time I saw a Hudson turret I'd just delivered a collection of bits from Stornoway to the guys at Elvington. Lost touch with progress on posting, but hopefully they'll have managed to figure out how to put it back together by now.

JDK, I take my hat off to you, Sir, and all AG/WAGs.

Edited to capitalise the salutation.

Diginagain, my blushes :O A missing 'n' rendered 'brave men' into 'brave me' - I've never gone into action, appreciatve of not having to. But we agree at the WOP/AG chaps. And on non-officer pay too.

Ah well, I'm sure I'm not the first to have been duped by a typo.

My admiration remains, however.

(BTW, I do believe that there were a small number of commissioned WOP/AGs.)
