Rad Alt

As I think the denizens here know everything could anybody help me with this query? Need to find out what a T/R 2206 Radio Altimeter box looks like (other than being a black box). Would appreciate a description or, better yet, a picture.

If you're talking mid sixties vintage, Rad-Alt retrofit, it may be that the civil STR-40 was the Mil 2206. These were retro-fitted to Vulcans in the mid sixties, and very likely all other armed RAF machines. What years do you have in mind?

Thanks for the pic forget, but somehow I don't think that's what I'm looking for.

The rad alt unit I'm interested in would have been mounted in the back hatch of a Canberra circa late 60s onwards. The unit would seem to be quite large going by the mounting tray, see pic. . .

There doesn't seem to be a more specialised web site on which to enquire. Thought that someone here may have been involved with such kit in the mob. I was a rigger so such stuff was all under the heading of wiggley amps - strictly for fairies and leccies and such.

OK B. First of all, are you certain it’s a Rad Alt mounting tray. Reason I ask is that a Rad Alt will have two co-axial feeders, one to the transmitting antenna and one to the receiving antenna, both (in the sixties) obviously on the belly.

I can see only one coax. If there is only one feeder then it’s more likely to be TACAN, or IFF. What are the numbers on the coax blue and yellow sleeves?
