The interminable 'Sea Jet' thread doesn't appear to have covered this yet, so what comments on:

'Thousands of jobs at risk' after delay to carrier deals (http://business.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=2146622005)

It was understood the first carrier would be in service by 2012 and the second by 2015.

But it emerged yesterday that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is no longer fully committed to that time scale.

Addressing the House of Commons defence committee, Lord Drayson, the defence procurement minister, told MPs he did not want to be held down to those dates.

There's also a story in the print edition of the Telegraph today, but I can't find it on the DT website.

Ahh, here we go. Delay CVF.....RN/MOD UK PLC manages for prolonged period without/reduced carrier capability....therefore next round of cost savings sees CVF follow CVA01. Makes perfect sense to the suits counting the cash. No CVF therefore no req for escorts = more money to save. RN = UK Fishery Protection Force.
No CVF therefore reduced buy of JSF...yet more cash saved. RAF reduced to Typhoon and JSF Display Teams.

Only snag .... if President Blair wishes to be up on the world stage alongside good ole USA best he rethinks quickly. No carrier would put him behind France, Spain etc when it came to sabre rattling. And for the RAF they'd be flying what few JSF we get from a French carrier when the Euro Defence force stands up!!!

Based upon fantasy and looking fwd to the controversy ... afterall this is rumour!!

Did'nt like the names anyway, Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth.

We need an 'HMS ****kicker' or similar.

Now Now Wyler. You have to understand that some poor soul named CVA-01 and has been waiting for years to try again with exactly the same name.

All of the headlines that I've seen today focus on the threat to jobs posed by the delay to CVF - not the gap in capability.

That kinda says it all really - very sad.

That's the truth of it though. If we put capability above jobs, we would never have had the F3 for a start!
