I've done a quick search and, rather surprisingly, can't find another thread on this subject so here is my contribution. "Ooops! I shrank the hangar" or "How NOT to park your ATR" :E

...and the modern Captain:

24th Oct 2005, 14:18
Now by golly....Ol' Cap is ready to defend his cockpit!

But Cap....please make the announcement "The Captain has turned on the Seat Belt Sign, and all passengers must return to their seat and fasten your seat belts and remain seated until the Captain turns the Seatbelt Sign off. Cabin Attendants please take your seats." "Terrorists attempting to take control of the aircraft should line up in the aisle please."

Then blast away! One shot should do it!

Clearly a fake.
Not even a Captain makes enough to afford the rounds for that thing... it's about $3.50 a shot (not that you need many shots :E)

"Honest, Officer, I'm a good Christian. That's why I've cut a cross in the head of each round -- as a blessing"

24th Oct 2005, 21:48
Them boots are made for walkin' and flyin', little lady........

24th Oct 2005, 21:49
Who is that guy?? That photo has done the rounds plenty of times via email.

He can't decide if he's a captain or FO...

24th Oct 2005, 22:35
Are you gonna tell him to FO???

I love that Boeing Handspring Guy :ok:

25th Oct 2005, 07:37
Well he probably has the optic sight zeroed for about 2500m. So it'd be safe to tell him to FO if you stand really really close...

Maybe it's a single pilot op. He only has two rings on the left sleeve.

Just slightly alarmed by this statement from the Barrett website:

'Whether you like to play around and go plinking...'

Play around?? With that??

G- Mate,

The Slingsby was nothing compared to the chap at Compton Abbas who went around when he saw Four Browns on final:ok:

This is not really a picture, but it was "nice" (if the topic had not been too serious and sad for laughing). Whether this one is known I dunno too. Decide for yourself whether you want to laugh or cry.

Basically it is the introduction to fly a 737 in an emergency (after the Helios incident). It was originally posted on the site of the daily "newspaper" Bild (scratch the "news"- part please, because it implies that valuable information is processed, which is hardly the case).
To translate the German introduction "737 landing for dummies" :

"You should do the following things in the cockpit of a 737

Get the headset of the pilot, grab the controls, press the radio-button at the control (1) and shout "Mayday". To hear a reply, let go of the button. If no one answers, one can call for emergency help on frequency 121,5.

It is heard worldwide by all air trafic controllers. Pull the throttles (2) carefully to yourself, take the machine down. Via the handlever (3) extract the flaps according to the speed. Approach speed 130 knots, take a look on the speed indication (4).

Extract the landing gear with the lever, which looks like a tyre (5). Is no airfield close by, steer with the help of the compass (6) to a close part of a road (length at least 1.5 km). Look at your fuel indication (7). At 100 feet above the runway pull back the throttles and and the controls. When the machine touches down, press with both feet upon the upper edge of both foot pedals until the plane stands still."

Arevel : Reminds me of the classic line from a classic film (those Magnifcent Men etc..)

The Uhlan (sp?) Col (the excellent Gert Forbe), taking over as the German team's pilot responding to his ADC's enquiry as to how he intends to fly since he (Gert) is not a pilot

"Like a Prussian Offizer duz everyzing....BY ZE BOOK!!!"

You can make up your own captions for this one. Snapped at Madrid during the summer.

Thanks Mr Farrell for reducing the size of the original which was enormous (how appropriate), I sussed out how to tweak the source file in Photobucket.

4th Nov 2005, 12:52
No probs!
