Hi Everybody,

Does anyone know what happened to the Nimrod AEW that was sitting on the hardstand at Finningley before it closed?

Be a real shame if it was scrapped - it was the last remaining complete airframe...

Cheers guys!!!

The best info I can unearth indicates that the three airframes that were converted to AEW 3 standard were returned to spares for the rest of the Nimrod fleet.
I stand to be corrected of course by those who know better.

According to Wrecks and Relics #15, it went to BAe Warton for spares reclaim and development work in the Nimrod 2000 programme.
However, it ended up going to Bournemouth, the nose section was eventually moved to Warton.

Cheers guys!

I guess that they must have effectively scrapped the rest of the airframe then! Is the nose section in the museum at Bournmouth? That would have to be one BIG nose section:E

However, it ended up going to Bournemouth,

Ah, but wasn't that because FR at Hurn were initially contracted to do the fuselage upgrade work for MRA4 before BAES decided to do it in-house at Woodford?
