Just for pure interest for those who like to be in the know, was checking local airport this morning before i went to work and saw this:

OHY439 Dalaman 09:05 09:05 Landed 09:13
XLA531 Tenerife/London Gatwick 09:15 09:20 Landed 09:21
BA709 Zurich 09:20 09:20 Landed 09:23
PGT491 Bodrum 09:30 09:30 Landed 09:26
BA477 Barcelona 09:30 09:30 Landed 09:29
EI710 Cork/Heathrow 09:30 09:30 Landed 09:32
UA904 New York 09:40 09:40 Landed 09:42
KL1059 Amsterdam 10:00 10:05 Landed 10:06
WW2002 Edinburgh 10:00 09:50 Landed 09:52
UAL924 New York 10:00

above may not seem strange to those who frequent heathrow and gatwick but take into consideration the above airport is CARDIFF!!!!!!

wx this morning at 0850Z:
CARDIFF EGFF 170850Z 10009KT 6000 FEW003 SCT005 14/13 Q1020

LONDON/GATWICK EGKK 170850Z 08003KT 0350 R08R/0500 R26L/0650 FG VV/// 13/12 Q1022

LONDON/HEATHROW EGLL 170850Z 13004KT 0600 R09R/0600 R09L/P1500 FG SCT000 BKN001 12/12 Q1022 BECMG 1500 BR BKN004

Assuming wx was to blame, also maybe a back log at both airports?

any comments.

Um
Well the METARs show visibilities at/below CAT 1, something these guys should have been capable of dealing with, but with Low Vis Procedures in force maybe these flights got caught out by extended holding ( perhaps 40 min plus)- it would be interesting to see last nights TAFs, was the vis f'cast to be so 'bad"?

Goodness me, a few extra arrivals and we are all of a sudden exciting

Certainly made for an interesting morning, I think I earned my overtime pennies today.

Oh yes they diverted in for refuelling no other exciting reason for you ;)

We had 1hr and 5mins holding plus about 25 minutes flying at min fuel speed on the way to the hold. The forecast fog was a prob 30%. It was not too suprising there were a lot of diversions.

Was it you that phoned to tell us about the sparrow flower? ;)

Well come on lets face it flower, aside from a few others that will remain nameless, cardiff has to be one of the dullest airports around, what with its predictable "red Dragon" and "Baby" departures alongside BY and FCA.

When Aircraft from other companies visit EGFF, then yes it does make it exciting!

Roll on! Exmor L9 FL150 Request Change OnRoute! Squawk YAWN YAWN!!

It is a great pity that Telphone at EGFF was not answered during the night Sun/Mon

If Cardiff is that boring then turn your scanner off, you big nerd...

On dep with London this morning, some LGW inbounds were receiving notification of 65min +, with suggestion of en-route holds over BEWLI. Not surprised that some couldn't stick it out.

Personally, I'm quite delighted that Cardiff is so 'boring', as this means I always get home in time for tea. Yum yum!

EXMOR L9 FL150 Request Change OnRoute! Squawk YAWN YAWN!!
Better check your spotters book a little more closely as if they are going EXMOR L9 they are going the incorrect way

We may not be the most exciting airport in terms of spotting but we have our other attributes ;)

Halo wasn't me sweetie, I am far to lowly to speak to the likes of EGLL :p

Too right.

We don't like holding - on the ground or in the air (it means I can't get to the gym on time), love visual approaches (I get to do some flying) and trust that all those who love getting stuck over OCK for 40 mins, then stuck on the outers for 40 mins, then stuck waiting for the crew-bus for 40 mins, then stuck on the M25 for 1 hr 40 mins continue to do so. Yawn indeed!

Stay out of our airspace! We like it quiet!

Ah Right indeed! sorry was tired from last night, Reedback Incorect It should have been n864 to Exmor, not the original L9 which is of course BCN/Alvin.

p.s I dont have a Scanner!

flower, changing the subject, is this "clearance" before taxi going to be permanent? Or is it on a trial basis?

flower
17th Oct 2005, 21:17
Yes N-S-R,
there will be further changes soon as well I believe when we get more new equipment installed hopefully next month , this should allow us to give the clearance prior to start up.

Expect many changes over the following few months , hope you are coming to the Pilot/ATCO forum on Thursday night at the Flying Club ?

never knew you were having one?!?

with regards to the clearance, the setup in dublin where the clearance is issued 10 mins prior startup seems to do the trick(but thats my opinion)

No Notices up in your crew room , that is worrying. 1930 at the Academy on Thursday night, professional Aircrew's to inform of the new airspace changes and procedures.
For those in the GA community I shall be doing a talk in the New year.

We Had Notice up in our crew room, so will most likely be attending. One question we were all pondering flower was, are we able to obtain our clearance before push and start is called for. The initial change is good prefer clearance before the taxi as apose to on the taxi makes for a safer operation.

agreed. like i said previously, 10 mins prior start seems to work in other places. its just that once started and ready to taxi we have encountered a couple of mins delay due to receiving the clearance and then other aircraft calling up at the same time..purely academic but cumulative at the same time.

Bleedin heck, when this sort of stuff is forecast we normally stick another 40 minutes of fuel on but 90 minutes of "holding"!!! no wonder Cardiff was full. For my future reference ( and uplift!)what time of day were you planned to arrive

flower

One of many questions we shall hopefully be able to answer for you on Thursday.
At the moment we have to call up London for your squawk and we do that when you push and start, from next month ( fingers crossed) we shall have a direct link to the NAS computer and should therefore be able to give you your clearance 10 minutes beforehand, we can also check slots then as well with you.

Loads of changes for the better going on so as many of you as we can get there to explain new airspace , procedures etc the better. It is also good for us to hear what you have to say, we may be better able to tailor the way we do things then.

Only joking, ill have a chat with some of the others and see if they are going as well. Our notice board has memos etc from 1-2 years ago. Good time for a spring clean.

Missed all the excitement it seems, nothing was broken so got away at 0430, slept through it all, damn this double glazing

Good to see a post re Cardiff again though, who's going to restart a "CARDIFF" thread in Airports/Airlines/Routes? :ok:

Only stopped as part of the spring clean, you can start a new thread just make sure it doesn't have happenings on the end of the title .

We were lucky with our fuel decision. Probably it was more like 70 mins worth of holding because 25 mins flying slowly before the hold, would probably have taken 20 minutes at normal speeds anyway. We were planned to arrive at about 0800Z.

I think the forum starts at 7pm not 730pm. Problem with being on leave for weeks :p
