Whilst holding short of runway 10 @<hidden> Dublin this afternoon i observed an operations vehicle pull up just passed the threshold of the runway in question. A Ops guy got out and fired 3 white flares into the sky. Can anybody shed some light on what it was this guy was doing ? Just to add that the conditions at the time were visibilit about no more than 500-600 mts with fog.
Thanks

Daily bird scare at DUB, 3 shots into the air from a flare gun, always a bright white flare used in DUB.

We have a policy of calling ATC advising them we are "Firing Pyros" hoping all on the Frequency are aware, although sometimes we cant get a word in on the RT & fire them especially if the safety of an aircraft is at risk, from a Birdstrike. We hardly ever ask permission, as they qualified Air traffic controllers & we are qualified Bird Controllers, you control the planes we control the birds, sort of thing, as someone was once told :ooh:
