I am visiting the UK this week and am interested in where to fly. Any recomendations of airfields worth visiting etc would be welcome.

Vortex, try the Swan at Newby Bridge, in the Lake district, have their own landing pad PPR, the food and locality are A1, but beware of areas nearby where there is Foot and Mouth, beware also the Swan is used as a turning point for low flying fast jets of the RAF type also Fat Alberts fly pretty low there as well, have a good one!

Three others:
Andrewsfield near Stansted - I flew in there once several years ago, it seemed quite nice and there's a little museum there about the guys that flew from there in the war;
White Waltham, west of London. The clubhouse is a pleasant place to sit and watch the world go by...
Elstree, north of London, use as a refuelling/bladder stop (if necessary) for the heli-routes; up the Thames/over Heathrow. But only go with someone that knows the 'routes well.
(You can tell I've done most of my flying in the South East!)
Oh. Just thought. Try Duxford & have a wander around their museum. Or, another fair old distance, I know, the International Heli Museum at Weston Super Mare. They've got a helipad (be sure to get a briefing) and are very welcoming to rotary winged visitors - no landing fee, but they (very apologetically!) ask for an entrance fee if you visit the museum and, when I went, I was shown around by one of their restorers. An excellent little day out.

I can also recommend Andrewsfield near Stansted. I've lived about 2 miles down the road for 6 months and flew in last night for the first time, it is absolutely superb.
Friendly people and idyllic surroundings.

A nice lunch stop not too far from Northampton is Barnsdale Lodge on the North side of Rutland Water. It is inside the Cottesmore Zone which means they can give you radar vectors straight to the helipad. Excellent food and beautiful surroundings. And also try Arrow Mill near Alcester which is a converted water mill W of Stratford on Avon. The owner is a real helicopter enthusiast and will make you very welcome. Nice food and accomodation. Details in Pooleys Guide.
