1. The phraseology "Squawk low" in connection with the use of transponder equipment means
a) Stop squawk
b) Squawk stand by
c) Squawk mayday
d) Squawk ident

Seen this twice in feedback questions and on both accounts "Squawk ident" was given as correct answer.;)

Outdated US phraseology. Google is your friend (http://www.faa.gov/atpubs/ATC/Chp5/atc0502.html) para 5-2-12. It means "Squawk standby".

It is a shame that questions like this appear. After flying for 18 years, I've never heard of the expression. It's probably written down somewhere in small italic print, behind the third crapper door, Gents loos, forth floor, eastern end, Gatwick Towers. If ever asked, I'd have to ask for a repeat in plain english as I wouldn't know what to do.

I was in the process of putting my own AL notes together (just for fun).
I have now decided to concentrate on producing a set of notes covering the outdated, spurious, rarely used, innacurate, misleading terms and Q's employed and deployed by aforementioned organisation beginning with 'J'.
