Took a 747 into Sydney yesterday on 34L, and was told to take either Foxtrot or Golf taxiway to the left. That worked in well with our stopping distance so we took Foxtrot.
There was no-one behind us at all, so we could have taken Alpha1, the last on the left, no probs at all.
Turned right onto Alpha, then stopped shortly after and had to shut down to get towed onto Bay Two.
(I'm on overtime and we were on-time so I wasn't worried by this at all)
Talking to the local Rep, he said that the last freighter of theirs that came in took Alpha 1, then again had to park and get towed onto Bay Four, while Bay Two remained open the entire time and the plane could have just taxied into it unrestricted.

So what's the story?
Why are the frieghters being made to park and be towed when in at least two cases we could have easily taxied onto out bays unrestricted?
