View Full Version : Lost Volume Shortcut

I've lost my volume shortuct & icon from Desktop & Start Menu (not to be confused with the System Tray icon that can be enabled from 'Sounds and Audio Devices Properties').

What part of Windows do I need to look in to shortcut back from? Nothing as simple as 'Volume' comes up in search, so presumably under some other name.

Thanks in anticipation.

Start>All programs>accessories>entertainment>volume control
should do the trick if you are in XP. The volume control icon can then be dragged (by right clicking & dragging) onto the desktop and copied there.

Hope that's of help

P.Pilcher.....

Thanks, but when I said Desktop & Start, I also meant (but perhaps could have been clearer) 'All Programs' within Start as well. ...Folders here reorganised many times since new, so no 'Entertainment' folder now. ...That said, they only shortcuts here - as we know - from the OS files, so back to the original question, where to look (?)

According to my machine, the volume control program(me) is sndvol32.exe and can be found in the system32 sub folder in the WINDOWS folder on your main harddrive (C:\) Use windows explorer to find this - start by running this program(me) click on my computer then C:\, then windows, then system32. Now find the program(me) itself and right click it. Select "create shortcut" and this will appear at the bottom of the listing. This can then be dragged to your desktop.
