I have looked on the DOTARS and CASA sites for min requirement for that Mar 10 aircraft security locks whiz bang thing that is going to solve the “war on terror” and make Santa come down my chimney.

Is there a web site link?

Can I use throttle locks?
Can I Put a bike chain around the prop?
Can I Use a special padlock that doesn’t have made in China on it and the same key as every other lock in the shop.

The AOPA website http://www.aopa.com.au/advocacy/aviationsecurity.cfm#anti has a few examples.

Not enough hours in the day to try and find info on the DOTARS site!

from Dotars ;
www.dotars.gov.au/transsec/atsa/resources/index_downloads.aspx
yeah.., it's a pain to find stuff on there.

CASA get into the act with ;
http://www.casa.gov.au/airworth/awb/02/index.htm

and from a mail-out notice from DoTars*.
The measure used will need to be easily visible from outside the aircraft as a deterrent to theft and also to facilitate compliance checking so, no sun screens if you have a throttle lock unless you put the following notice on the outside AIRCRAFT ANTI-THEFT SECURITY DEVICE FITTED
and can be contacted by the gestapo.

What mightily p****es me off is that they can directly waste $106k for signage, and they subsidise regional airports 50/50 to upgrade infrastructure, but they won't subsidise aircraft owners in implementing measures to satisfy the fear-mongering **&#$ directives.:mad:
http://www.dotars.gov.au/transsec/atsa/resources/Memorandum.doc
New signage will be needed at all airports, to replicate the prescribed wording and include the new penalty clause . The cost for the whole country is estimated to be of the order of $2 million The Government will be providing around 15,000 signs for airside perimeter and entrance areas at a cost of around $106,000 for newly regulated airports.

so, no sun screens if you have a throttle lock unless you put the following notice on the outside
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AIRCRAFT ANTI-THEFT SECURITY DEVICE FITTED
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and

Don't forget that to satisfy that other so called safety authority you will need to also put inside those sunshields and or canopy covers in BIG RED letters

Remove Before Flight

tipsy

If you are in a crash I would hate to see the damage they would do to the back of your head! They do nothing to prevent terrorisim! but instead add another large floating metal object to the cabin of a GA aircraft!

I read the following passage placarded on the window of an aircraft the other day.

"To the general public including terroists, this aircraft is undergoing maintainence and is unservicable, it should not be flown."

Does this comply? I wonder.:D
