On a slightly unrelated note, why do people working on the road in the states wear orange hi-viz jackets, and people in the UK wear yellow hi-viz. I would have thought the yellow was brighter, and therefore, safer?

My God that trooper is one tough guy. Did you see him get up and run to the side of road! If I had been hit like that I would still be laying on the road.

It almost looks like that woman aimed at him, ex-wife maybe.:O

He doesn't look like he's young but he has fantastically quick reactions.

He picks himself up in a heartbeat, as they say, and runs off the road.

A totally amazing escape for that guy. :D

When I was in Colorado and Wyoming last year, it was only by chance that I saw a TV news item about this type of situation.
It had recently become a legal requirement, in one or both of those states, for passing traffic to move across and give the stopped emergency vehicle and personnel at least one lane's separation. In this instance, it wouldn't seem to be a legal requirement in Tennessee as many vehicles continued to pass in the adjacent lane.
I'm pleased that I saw that item as, later in my stay, I had occasion to give a wide berth to a police vehicle on the hard shoulder.

Bah, I'd have picked myself up and emptied my sidearm into the bleedin' 4x4, reloaded and fired again, all whilst scampering to the side of the road. :ok: A bit of a knock and these state troopers become all luvvie-duvvie - wouldn't happen to a Detroit cop?! ;)

I've seen a few of these on Big Boys, but none as bad as this one /:eek: \

Oddly enough, that was another b&w he was talking to.

Looks like he left his hat in the road. Does that mean he can't arrest anyone?

Wait tinpis. The ad comes first, then it goes into the video. This is why I leave a space for anyone on the hard shoulder - so a sneeze will not be fatal (as it was in one similar case in the UK).

Makes you wonder why Tennessee has drive-thru package beer stores. If you can get your car up to the window without hitting the building they'll sell you more booze, even if you are too drunk to stand up and walk into the store........add a drunk driver talking on their cellphone, and you've got catastrophe.

It's amazing the trooper walked away from that as he could so easily have been hit by another vehicle on the freeway.

I know we, particularly in the UK anyway, see traffic cops as a pain in the arse, but there are those who work primarily on motorways/freeways and face a certain amount of danger in the course of their everyday job.
I certainly wouldn't want to put myself out there where some f*ckwit who happens to be on a mobile phone or who's had a few small libations with the lads after work can run me over.

Makes having an Airprox or two seem quite run of the mill really.

I try to give any vehicle on the side of the road some room - also I try to expect someone to walk/run around the car into the lane so I'm not taken by surprise....

Funnily enough there used to be a show on TV here showing the cops on the motorway in Auckland... especially the ones on the bridge. They went totally spare whenever anyone they pulled over got out of the car! (I guess for that reason)

"Git beck in your car!!!" :E :p

There's something like that showing on "Men and Motors" in the UK. It's called "Motorway Patrol" or something like that.

Munky, that's the one! :ok:

I recognise the voice of the narrator but can't for the life of me figure out what he's been in.....
