Was watching the sparks from CB cells 17:00 through to 17:30 around BHX today. An aircraft took off at approx 17:10 from Rwy 15 when I could have sworn I saw an aircraft get struck.

Not a big deal I know but looked very impressive, just like the 747 lightning strike video that did the rounds. I don't know what this particular aircraft was. However, it was a fairly large twin jet (possibly 757 but more likely 76 size) - just to far away. The aircraft was on a northerly BHX SID off Rwy 15 but hadn't made the initial left turn when it appeared to be struck.

Can anyone else confirm whether it was a strike or was it just my vantage point that created the illusion that it was struck?

Dom, can't answer your question but if anybodies interested, Brum did take a couple of Weather diversions this evening

RRR4571 (a C130) & RRR6911 (a L1011), presumably from Lyneham & Brize respectively
