There is one acknowledged expert:

Otherwise known to many as 'Gilbert Blades'........

I think I am right to say... Military Service is not covered by employment law, you are "in the Service of the Crown" and therefore not strictly speaking an employee... (likewise for Civil Servants.... military, ciivil geddit?)

Some aspects of employment law are mirrored in the respective TCoS... but, I believe, it would be a mistake to assume that all its provisions apply.

The website states that they are able to advise Forces Personnel on Employment Law.

If you haven't heard of Gilbert Blades yet, you won't be in the Service long before you will have!

Thought old Gilbert had retired. Obviously, he's screwed the military for enough to enable him to live quite comfortably!

have contacted wilkin chapman etc, they are getting back to me. trying to find other solicitors so i can get a couple of opinions before i make any decisions. as an aside i wasnt referred to Blades but to another chap they have who apparently specialises in employment. have spoken to a few people so far but none seem to have any experience of the military and the potential problems that were alluded to by Pierre Argh.

Not a lawyer but do have did have a job specialising in it at one stage. Some employment law does apply to the Armed Forces but a lot of it doesn't (you can't, for instance, claim 'constructuve dismissal) - even European legislation includes exemptions for Armed Forces from some legislation.

Juliet - if you want to drop me a PM I can see if what your interested in is or is not covered by legislation. I am no longer involved with any Service P staff organisations. It is up to you but you could save money on lawyers fees.

Mrs P-T-G is a corporate employment lawyer.

PM me (or find me at work) and I will ask her to see where you stand - that is if she's not too busy fighting Innsworth on my behalf ! ! ! !
