View Full Version : Upcoming Orlando Bashes
brockenspectre 17th Aug 2005, 20:08 FEB 2006
Hi all - I had hoped to suggest an Oct bash but because of dates and other plans I won't be able to get across to Orlando BUT I will be back in FL in Feb 2006 'cos my Floridian chums have a wedding anniversary coming up and .. we will be in Orlando for a couple days. Those who were party to the last Orlando bash will remember meeting them! Anyway... when I said I wanted to propose a "revisit" to Pleasure Island they were deffo in agreement! So ...
The Date: 26 February 2006
The Time: 6pm onwards
The Venue: ?Pleasure Island
The Attendees: any prooner/chum in Orlando or able to get to Orlando for that evening :ok:
Keygrip is already on board as BashMeister ('tis his stomping ground after all) and he may well have other plans for a more extended bash than just the one night :ok: :E
Anyone else forward planning? If not, I will be bringing this up to the top every so often 'tween now and The Feb
Date!!! Otherwise please express interest here so an idea of numbers can be gleaned! :ok: :E
AUTUMN 2005
OKies - edited to add that I am sure Keygrip and others in FL will be up for a get together during the autumn so feel free to use this thread as a general one for any proposed proon party in Orlando 'tween now and the Feb one!!! :)
Keygrip 18th Aug 2005, 00:03 Ah ha!! At last. Right then, offt we jolly well go.
Biggest question (for now) has to be dinner - votes please
Wolfgang Puck's (again), or
Planet Hollywood, or
Rainforest Cafe (www.rainforestcafe.com)
Seems Brocky has chosen a Sunday night - so the "Hoop De Doo Revue" is not at its best (needs to Monday, Tuesday or Friday for that).
Accommodation available in Kissimmee - close by - for $40 a night (two beds, so $20 a bed).
Come on then - who's up for it?
(P.S. Might start the rehearsals next month [September] if anybody wants to help with the beer drinking and food tasting).
PilotsPal 18th Aug 2005, 09:37 Shame about October - CarltonBrowne & I are likely to be in the vicinity for the first two weeks. Too early to know what plans might be in February.
Glad the bash meisters keygrip and brocky finally caught up on those dates. Didn't look like it was going to happen for a while there. :ok:
Keygrip 20th Aug 2005, 16:01 PLEASE - calm down. Can't handle all this response at once. :{
Tinstaafl 21st Aug 2005, 15:41 Oh, well.... All right. We'll force ourselves to attend. Again.
Jeez. Some people are so pushy... :p
Turkish777 29th Aug 2005, 17:52 I'll be back in the UK by then..:*
But if you have a get together this year before mid November, count me in..:ok:
brockenspectre 30th Aug 2005, 19:06 Hiya - just thought for anyone contemplating joining us in Feb and maybe even "practising" with Keygrip in the fall they might like to see what was said 'bout the last bash - so here (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=115887&perpage=15&pagenumber=7) is what we wrote!! :ok: :) :E
brockenspectre 14th Sep 2005, 18:35 My friends and I have "done" a few Orlando dinner shows over the past umpteen years but I have come across a site for one called "Sleuths" - has anyone attended this?
It looks like fun and when we are in Orlando in Feb next year it is (a) for their wedding anniversary and (b) to meet prooners so ... on the non-proon get together night we are going to go to a dinner show and I want to treat my chums as an anniversary gift but I obviously want it to be a fun evening. So ... any comments on Sleuths please? :ok:
Keygrip 14th Sep 2005, 20:11 Is that the one in the restuarant at the Grosvenor Resort? Saturday nights.
Everybody sitting around munching their dinner when, suddenly, a murder is uncovered.
Everybody in the restaurant is deemed to be both a suspect and a detective. The way the script runs is that members of the "cast" are also sat in the crowd, subvertively, and they prodcue both clues and red herrings.
Turns out the muderer could have been you (apparently).
Haven't been yet - but if you insist, I'll go do some research.
Dinner shows - I usually do the "Hoop De Doo Revue" at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds in Disney World.
brockenspectre 17th Sep 2005, 19:39 Hiya Keygrip - no the one I have found is this (http://www.sleuths.com) ... don't know if it is near the Grosvenor Resort or not but the range of shows looks like fun! :ok:
Keygrip 25th Sep 2005, 02:33 Hmmm, did a little research - nowhere near the Grosvenor - but I'll still go check it out.
Was at the "Hoop De Doo Revue" again last nightso missed an opportunity. I note the prices for Sleuths are advertised at $37 - but there's a $5 voucher hidden in the website - so $32 (about £18) a head (plus tax and mandatory "tip", I guess).
All you can eat and drink included. Seems fair game.
Jinkster 10th Oct 2005, 12:48 I may be in Orlando around the end to mid november!
Keygrip 10th Oct 2005, 16:35 Rigtht then, Jinkster - seems YOU and I will have to go check out "Sleuths" together. Any family coming with you?
Let me know if you make plans to come to Orlando.
Jinkster 12th Oct 2005, 22:10 keygrip -
no flights book at the moment but it will be around mid to end of november...I understand you are the person to speak to about renewing a JAR ME rating, feel free to PM.
I shall keep u posted!
Keygrip 14th Nov 2005, 22:05 Hoop De Doo Revue is still getting rave reviews from visitors (and the food is great).
Went to "Murderwatch Mystery Theatre" at The Grosvenor Resort last saturday evening (on my way to The Adventurers Club).
Great fun, had a hoot - and only $39 (GBP25ish) per ticket for all you can eat dinner and the show.
Can safely tell you that Curt was the murderer (shows always change).
Will go to Sleuths when I get chance.
Off to see the horses in the Arabian Nights show next Monday (21st)
Murderwatch (http://murderwatch.com/murderwatch.html)
Sleuths (already linked earlier)
[URL=http://www.arabian-nights.com/]Arabian Nights (http://www.sleuths.com/)
Will let you know!!
Mordacai 19th Nov 2005, 20:44 Is this still on?
Be good to see Broky again!
Iain.
brockenspectre 26th Nov 2005, 18:46 Yo Keygrip!! Thanks for checking out the revues for us! I like the sound of the Murderwatch Mystery Theatre :ok: I haven't prebought anything yet so if you have time to check out Sleuths that would be great ... as I said the non-proon evening in Orlando with my friends will be my treat for their anniversary :ok: So you decide on what you want us to do for the bash!
Hiya Iain how's life? Yeps the Feb 26th evening is still deffo on.
Thus far, confirmed attendees are:
Keygrip,
Tinstaafl and Pax Domina
me plus my two Tampa chums you met last time.
Also there is a chance that seacue will be in town too :ok: :)
Keygrip 29th Dec 2005, 22:09 You still going for this Brockster?
I haven't yet made it to Sleuths but am in with a good chance between Jan 5th and 17th....also trying out Dolly Partons Dixie Stampede.
Will send you a trip report when I can.
Still fancy it?
brockenspectre 30th Dec 2005, 20:18 Keygrip - yeppers ... Feb 26 is in the diary. Friends and self "did" the Dolly Parton's Stampede last year and it is a great evening out - you can also walk round the stables beforehand and see the horses used in the show! Its fun :ok:
The detective-y thing I think I will treat my friends to for their anniversary not on bash-night, so we just need decide what to do for the bash evening- deffo an eating/drinking kind of sesh don't you think? The RainForest Cafe looks great... and you said Sunday is not the best day for Hoop de Doo? Whaddya think?
Keygrip 31st Dec 2005, 02:10 Hmmm - a Sunday evening. How delightfully heathen.
This one could take some pondering - the problem with any of the dinner shows, especially for a party of this type/size, is that we would need to book a table or two - and that would need a credit card, and that would need guaranteed numbers and attendance - which is tricky in this type of game. Promises made, too easily broken.
Brings us to the option of "pay in advance" and book a dinner show or default back to somewhere like Wolfgangs (he didn't let us down last time) and finish off with a Hoopla somewhere (Adventurers Club?).
There are, of course, millions of good muncheries and a whole host of places to go and play out - it's what Orlando does best - but it would need a concensus of opinion and some financial guarantees to be able to book anything solid.
Maybe a couple of nights? Smaller parties at their own style of show? Dunno.
Hoop De Doo is fun - bit like a British "panto". Lots of "behind you" type humour and corn ball jokes that you can see coming from Tennessee - but still a hoot - and the food is usually yummy. Endless salad, chicken (KFC style - but nicer), sweetcorn, bar-b-que beans and pork ribs (and I mean endless, just keep asking, it keeps coming [in small metal buckets]) - also includes freebie beer, wine or soft drinks.. Price for the 9:30 show drops to $40 a head with my discount package. 5pm and 7:15 shows are $50 each (no discount).
Girlfriend of mine that worked there has finished and gone to Dixie Stampede to work - but you've already said that that is a no go.
There is "Pirates of the Carribean" dinner show - know bugger all about it but could be fun to find out. Same rules apply - we would have to book.
I'm open to suggestions from one and all.
Anybody fancy staying overnight and/or doing a day in one of the Disney parks? Circa $75 for a one day pass to a park this year.
Hotels are going from $40 to $100 depending on location and star rating. Snag is - it's a Sunday (unless we play out for a while).
brockenspectre 15th Jan 2006, 18:39 Yo Keygrip - seeing as how this thread is turning in to a PM 'tween thee and me I think it probably best if we do the WolfgangPuck dinner followed by Adventurers Club (or summat else) routine! Have you heard from IainPoll or Tinstaafl/PaxDomina at all? Not sure if anyone else will be there so t'would deffo be bad to try and pre-book a dinner show ... someone would end up outta pocket!! Whaddya think?
Keygrip 15th Jan 2006, 19:07 Nah - don't tend to "e" directly with the locals - I wonder why? Only contact is usually through here.
I'm game for Wolfgangs and A.C. - OR we do a small booking for a show and others could try to add later (their fault for not confirming) - OR we could do a send me a "cheque in advance" (check, in USA) and I'll book a show. Of course the "residents" could book their own tables, on their own credit cards, and then we "push together".
We all staying over and going to play with the Mouse next day?
Is there anywhere to post this for the Virgin/BA/Britannia/Thomas Cook/Air2 (and others?) that may be nightstopping at MCO or SFB?
I received my February schedule about 30 minutes ago, and I'm working Sat, Sun, & Mon of that weekend.
However, when our trip-trade system opens up next week, I'll have opportunities to try and make some trades, so please keep the updated details posted here, in case I can change my schedule -- thanks!
Would be nice to see everyone again, and anyone else, new or otherwise, who might be in the area as well.
brockenspectre 28th Jan 2006, 17:08 Hey McD - that's great!!! It will be fun to catch up again ... will Mr PurpleSquadron be along too?
D'you realise that its less than a month??!!!
Keygrip - do you know if anyone managed to get this highlighted for crews? As a Mod you are probably best placed to sort that out!
As for staying over, my friends and I are doing so but I am not sure what is planned for the Monday ... 'cos this is all part of their anniversary weekend I think I will just wait and see how things pan out on the Sunday night. If they are up for "Mousing" on Monday then that'd be fun for sure :ok: :)
Keygrip 2nd Feb 2006, 02:02 DRAT!! Very nearly made it to Sleuths tonight.
Show started at 7:30 - I could have got there for 7:45 (but didn't want to miss the start).
We'll get it right - don't worry.
brockenspectre 3rd Feb 2006, 19:05 Hehehehe Keygrip - well you only gotta few more weekends to "practise" so ... really don't worry if you don't get to it! I am just going to line up options and let my friends choose which dinnershow they would like ... there doesn't seem much point in pre-buying! As for the 'bash ... deffo think we should rendezvous at Wolfgang Pucks ... its easily findable for all ... then we can see what we want to do thereafter.. dontcha think? :E
Tinstaafl 5th Feb 2006, 01:17 Pax D & I should be there. I've requested the time off at work. No flights booked so far...
Still trying to work out a change to the roster, but not much luck yet. Perhaps soon....
brockenspectre 11th Feb 2006, 16:16 Yo Tinstaafl - will be keeping fingers crossed that you and da Missus will be able to be there!!!
McD - errrrrr as I re-read what you wrote and my response I have to apologise 'cos I obviously didn't register what you were saying, namely, that you are WORKING .... but now attempting to "fix" that! Really sorry sis .... and hope that y'all can make it!
IainPoll you there? you gonna be around?
Keygrip y'all set? You got my coordinates? If not, PM me your cell number 'cos now my friends charge up a pre-pay for me over there ... I can let you have my UK cell number, no problem, but to avoid extra charges once I am in TPA I will text you so you have my local number, k? :ok:
Keygrip 14th Feb 2006, 04:38 Monday 13th. Just managed to do a rehearsal at the Dixie Stampede. Great liitle show - VERY well staged - though it would have been a bit pricey at $58 per person (plus a recommended 15% tip for the waitress), approax $130 (£80? for two).
Fortunately, I didn't have to pay that much - got tickets for $10 each - and would most definately go again for that amount (but not $58).
Will probably have a run to "Capones" in Kissimmee next - or, just maybe, the elusive visit to "Sleuths". Might go back to the Hoop De Doo instead. Will let you know.
Anybody got a time suggestion for the Orlando bun fight? 7:30? Any comments, for or against?
brockenspectre 14th Feb 2006, 10:13 Hi Keygrip - 7.30 is fine ...earlier would be fine too if others have different preferences!!
What time will you be checking in? We are (allegedly) staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort ... although I am prepared for those plans, best laid by chums, to go awry! (I have yet to meet anyone who has "won" on one of those timeshare trips). Will 'Pucks need a reservation or as it is a Sunday evening is it likely to be quiet-ish?
Farrell 14th Feb 2006, 10:56 BrokenSpectre - I will refer the Pollinator to your post.
He's such a busy man don't you know!! :E
Mordacai 14th Feb 2006, 20:48 Hello
Yeah, I'm coming - don't care where we go, it will just be nice to get out of Zero Beach!
Keygrip, I'll give you a call.
The Pollinator :-)
mikelimapapa 15th Feb 2006, 01:54 Just wondering, is this an airline bash or an open invite for everyone?
Keygrip 15th Feb 2006, 03:00 MLP - it's a PPRUNE bash - therefore open to all Ppruners (and/or their guests).
Would be a pleasure to have you along if you fancy it (not many of us bite strangers (can't speak for Mordacai though - watch him)). Keep watching the board and you'll glean more details as time unfurls.
Round D. Globe 15th Feb 2006, 03:13 Keygrip
Check your PM's please
Keygrip 15th Feb 2006, 13:33 RDG - checked 'em - but answered here in case anybody else is "lurking".
The venue, for meeting at least, seems 99.9% sure to be Wolfgang Pucks Restaurant at Dowtown Disney (Westside), Lake Buena Vista, Kissimmee(ish), Florida.
Clicking the link below should give you a map with directions from Orlando International Airport - you should be able to pan, zoom, print etc.
http://tinyurl.com/bp3w8
Sunday 26th still seems favourite - with a possible hotel overnight and a day playing out in Disney (see Mickey Mouse?) on Monday?
Open to suggestions from one and all.
Round D. Globe 15th Feb 2006, 13:47 Keygrip
Pucks is an excellent choice. Been there many times. Great food.
Looking forward to it.
RDG
brockenspectre 16th Feb 2006, 12:07 mikelimapapa for what its worth, the friends I stay with near TPA who will be at the 'bash are nowt to do with aviation (apart from the wife who lusts after flying a helo!!) so all prooners (with their friends) are most definitely welcome as Keygrip says!
Mordecai - glad you'll be there!
Round D. Globe - will be fun to meet! :ok:
OKies so current list is, by my reckoning:
Keygrip, Tinstaafl+Pax Domina, Mordecai, Round D Globe, Brockenspectre + 2, with possibles of: mikelimapapa, McD (+1?)..
any more? :)
Some progress made re my schedule, but not quite enough progress to confirm attendance.
I should know for sure NLT Thursday.
Keygrip correct me if I'm wrong, but Wolfgang Puck doesn't require reservations, do they? (Just asking, in case anyone is reading this, who might not be able to confirm attendance, but still might want to meet up. They could just show up at Wolfgang Puck at 7:30pm Sunday, couldn't they? I'm sure the PPRuNe party wouldn't be too difficult to find ;) )
Keygrip 19th Feb 2006, 19:30 Yep, just turn up. WE could (should) mention to the table staff that the group would be known as "Proon" - then if anybody did ask....
Really hope you make it McD. Long time since I saw you last.
brockenspectre 20th Feb 2006, 14:23 Hi all - arrived safely and spent yesterday at the State Fair which was fun!
Definitely all "good to do" for 26th ... so see y'all then!
Keygrip - we are having to revalidate the SIM in the local pay-as-you-go phone so I can't give you that number for a few days. Just in case, you can of course use the # of my Brit cell OK? :)
Keygrip 20th Feb 2006, 15:10 OK - but if you're already here....fancy a rehearsal?
When you doing Sleuths? "Capones" in Kissimmee is advertising rates of $20 per person for dinner and show. Hoop De Doo at $40 for dinner and (9:30pm) show.
Maybe McD could join a rehearsal rather than the bash if work schedules are awkward?
Did you bring "the book"?
brockenspectre 21st Feb 2006, 17:48 keygrip thanks for the tip about Capones - I will have a snoop at the website! As for a rehearsal, I am without wheels this trip and friends are working up until we get to Orlando next weekend. The weekend is planned by the wife as a wedding anniversary treat (husband only knows he is going away) so ... I will be hosting them to something on the Saturday night but it will very much be a "what do we feel like seeing" kind of thing ... so at the mo can't commit to anything! Of course if plans change you will be the first to know! :ok: :E
Romeo Delta 21st Feb 2006, 18:30 Hey all!
Would love to be at the Orlando Bash, but will be oop norf (Ohio) for work that day. I get back to RSW late Sunday, then have to head out to LaBelle for my second job (Football Commissioner).
Tip a glass for me, will ya? Thanks! Stay warm!
RD
OzExpat 22nd Feb 2006, 11:41 :uhoh: Sorry Keygrip, but "the book" will be absent this year and it's all my fault for getting too pished to remember to send it to Brocky. As an expedient, use some pages from a notebook to record attendence and I'll arrange to collect same from Brocky later in the year and duly incorporate into the said book.
Sorry about the foul-up.:{
brockenspectre 25th Feb 2006, 01:40 Ozmaaaaaaaaaaaaate you are forgiven! I probably should have reminded you at some point but didn't! I will deffo acquire some sheets of suitable dimension to stick in da Register!!
Keygrip - have sent a PM with local cell no. as after checking mails tomorrow morning I probably won't be online again before we all meet on Sunday. We are aiming to be at Pucks between 1900/1930 local ... but if our aim is off we will be there as soon as!! We are staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort and there are, allegedly, courtesy buses to Disney but who knows their frequency!
Seeya Sunday. :ok:
Keygrip 25th Feb 2006, 01:57 Yo - first time on the board in three days - my home network had a meltdown and then I spent a couple of days away working.
Tried for the first rehearsal at Capones on Thursday. Called them in the afternoon, explained potential bunch of us for the gig that night, they asked us to book with a credit card, explained that we couldn't do that as the numbers were unknown, "Oh, OK - just turn up then".
Four of us "just turned up" but were told that the place was sold out - capacity crowd - and that that is the usual case. Sells out, 100%, 7 nights a week.
OK - I'll chuffing book next time then.
Seems there MAY be a few extras appearing from OFT at Kissimmee for the Wolfgang Puck meet on Sunday. Mordacai has been in touch - we'll be night stopping in some hotel somewhere. The Holiday Inn that you quote is asking for $120 a night (but that's only $60 each!!).
See ya Sunday - 7:30 is good, (bring the plane/plain paper).
brockenspectre 25th Feb 2006, 14:41 Yo Keygrip - as I doubted the prudency of trying to smuggle me in to my friends freebie "d'you wanna buy a timeshare room" at Sunspree I looked online yesterday ... got a price on a standard room and then called the 1-800 # and as I had been having problems booking online asked if they would honour the internet room rate and ... they did!! The room is twin queen beds (allegedly - although I was offered a kids suite at the same price!!) and is $104.99 a night plus taxes...
Anyway we will be heading to Sleuths tonight - the show we wanted was sold out so we are doing the 8.30 (The Premiere), tomorrow during the day hanging by the pool while chums catch up on sleep, and at the mo Monday for us looks like SeaWorld as my friends want to buy their annual SeaWorld/Busch Gardens passes... fancy Seaworld instead of Disney? Oh they are having to go to a timeshare presentation (the reason for their freebie hotel room) on Monday so we probably won't be heading to Seaworld until later in the day though... anyway... I am going offline now so seey'all Sunday!!
P.S. McD - hope you have managed to twist some arms and can make Pucks after all!! :ok:
Yep, good to go :ok:
Might be a bit cool & rainy, but IIRC, Pucks has indoor seating as well as outdoor seating, so I'm sure we'll all still have fun no matter what the wx. Looking forward to seeing/meeting everyone.
I mentioned this mini-bash to another pilot who may join us. And as a reminder to anyone else who might be reading this and wondering if they'd be welcome -- the answer is yes -- just show up.
See y'all tomorrow at 7:30 :)
Keygrip 27th Feb 2006, 05:55 1:29am - just back into my hotel.
That was a good night. I'll leave it to Brockster to expand on all the gory details - but we lost a few people who said they were going....and then had a surprise guest.
Good gig - plans already under way for a beach party - more on that later (have some planning to do first).
Great to see everyone there! Thanks, Keygrip for all your work in setting everything up :ok:
Very good that Tinstaafl & Pax Domina arrived early and secured a table -- well done! Brockenspectre, you're nearly a Florida resident now ;) -- always nice to see you, and glad your Tampa-area friends could be there too. Thanks also to Danny for coming along for a while in spite of jetlag.
It was a delicious meal, and wonderful company; looking forward to the next "do" at the beach!
brockenspectre 1st Mar 2006, 15:37 OKies well 'tis my first day on a puter since the bash so here is my, possibly garbled, recollection of the evening!!
Friends and self started our mooch through Pleasure Island and then realised that we had headed away from Pucks (d'oh) so we turned about and at this point I discovered I had received my first "missed call" on my local pay-as-you-go phone! Such excitement! It was Keygrip saying that he was on his way. We arrived outside Pucks and as the night was chill there was no way we would be sitting outside. I called Keygrip whose arrival was imminent and then we inspected a beautiful glass/art store nearby! Definitely somewhere to spend $$$ but the works were stunning.
Keygrip arrived and we mooched across to Pucks but while we were hesitating as to go in now or wait a little longer who should emerge, drink in hand, but Tinstaafl!! Sensible chap, he and PaxD had foregone shivering outside, arranged a table for 8 and had lined up drinks!!! Good man that! :ok:
Mordacai had said that he might have to fly on the Monday so as he didn't turn up we presume that was why ... Round D Globe also didn't show - I nearly did my "accost a likely looking chap in case he is a prooner" routine but was restrained from doing so :E :E The Pucks menu is great - a super range of different, not horribly pricey, options and as we were ordering food who should arrive but McD and.... Danny! First time I had met him on the 'merican side of the Atlantic ... first time Keygrip had met him at all (thought he was pulling my leg!!)...so it was a full table that tucked in to Pucks Pizzas and, in my case, a giant stack of ribs (it was a single order, honestly!!!).
Time flew, banter exchanged, and alas jetlag was demanding the boss's attention so McD and Danny left, followed shortly thereafter by Tinstaafl and PaxD - just shows a Sunday night is not really the best choice of evenings!!!
Thus the four remaining headed off, as is our wont, to the Adventurers Club ... suffice to say that it is to be recommended as a fun "time out" in Pleasure Island for all who visit there ... KUNGALOOSH!!! :E :E A BIG Thank you to Keygrip for getting us all a discount for the meal and the show - deffo a bonus!! :ok:
OKies I have rambled enough and as the sun is out :E :E one must desport oneself and attempt to look a little tanned before the return to YooKay at the weekend!! :ok:
The next Florida/Orlando bash is in the planning stages - a barbie on the beach near-ish the Space Center ... sounds like a good-un already!! - McD will let us all know in due course!
As always it was great to meet up with folk - most of whom I originally met on the Brit side of the pond but these days only see on the 'merican one!!! :ok:
Until the next time y'all fly safe d'ya hear??!! :E :E
Round D. Globe 1st Mar 2006, 19:06 I DID show at Pucks at 7:30pm as stated which by the way was pretty crowded at that time
only find that I had not brought KEYGRIPS mobile # along and since I've never seen any of you before,
I thought I would wonder around aimlessly looking for a loud group of Brit aviators whom have been
enjoying the GBP to DOLLAR exchange rates with a table of drinks in front of them..
(By the way, if any of you saw a guy in a green sweatshirt and a black hat, that was ME).
I went back to the front and asked Kiki the hostess if there was a group of people called "Prooners" or even under KEYGRIPs real name, she checked and said nope. So I ordered some take away Sushi and headed for home.
Sorry I missed you guys, maybe next time.. KEYGRIP, I still owe you one!
RDG
RDG, Sorry to hear that the hostess didn't give you good information. Sad, especially as we were seated not too far at all from the entry door.
Well done to you for trying, though!
Perhaps next time...which will possibly be out at the cape/space coast.
brockenspectre 2nd Mar 2006, 15:02 Round D Globe - that SUX big time - as McD says we were so close to the bar/entrance too! :{ - its not too surprising though that Kiki didn't know us, it took Tinstaafl about eight attempts to give her the proon name apparently ... "prune like the fruit" and "P..R..U..N..E.." and still the card read "P. PURNE"!!!! Deffo next time - and if the barbie-on-the-beach happens to coincide with my being in FL too I will send you my US cell number as backup!!!
I forgot to add Ozmaaaaaaate that I remembered paper so we all wrote comments and we saved the Pucks card so it too can be stuck in Da Register when I catch up with you in the summer :ok: :E
OzExpat 3rd Mar 2006, 07:11 Seems to me that you can solve the PPRuNe identification problem in the same way that we did for the last Brisbash. For that one, GoGirl made up a large banner which loudly proclaimed PPRuNe. I wore my new PPRuNe cap, as did one of the other attendees.
Sadly, we didn't have a great spot to hang the banner, but the PPRuNe caps drew all the Prooners!:ok:
Thanks for that Brocky. It looks like my arrival in the Yoo-Kay this year will be a tad later in the summer than usual, as I'm trying to include the Gatbash. If that works out, I'll have the dreaded book with me and, if we don't catch up before, I'm sure we'll catch up then!:)
Tinstaafl 3rd Mar 2006, 21:31 Pax D & I arrived early - about 6:15 or so. I never saw the updated meeting time later in this thread. Good thing we were there early. When we got there the waiting time for a table for 8 was 60-75 mins! We booked a table & then went to the bar to watch the breasts walk past......I mean have a beer or two while waiting.
We cunningly booked the table under the name P.Prune, thinking that as long as any arrivals asked for P, Prune; Proon, or some variant they'd get to our table. Unfortunately stupidity &/or dyslexia won when after numerous tries the booking person couldn't spell 'Prune. As in the fruit. No...with an 'r'. Er...that's 'P' then 'Prune'. You've mispelled it. The 'r'. No, not the 'n'. The 'r'.......P, R, U, N, E. Oh, close enough."
After a while we started to get worried about wrong day or something. Thank technology for mobile phones with web browsers!
Towards the end of my 2nd beer our table was called & as we were about to be led there we saw the others arrive outside. Perfect timing!
Pax D. & I left after dinner. I had a cold/flu thing & wasn't feeling too crash hot. Bugger really. We'd both arranged the next day off so we could party late.
It was a nice surprise to see Danny again! Was nice to see everyone else again too. Wasn't a surprise though. :p
