It flew over my house in Dallas a couple of days ago. Four engined high wing turbo prop with a tail like a C130. In fact it could have been a C130 except the chord of the wing was much shorter. The wings didn't look right at all.

It looked like it had a dark blueish wide diagonal stripe on the side of the fuselage too.

Maybe a Dash-7, they had/have very high aspect ratio wings (STOL). They are very quiet.

Most of the photos have the big flaps extended.

IIRC, only 100 were built. Not enough people needed the STOL.

They used to used by commuter lines from KDCA. The plane would line up on the runway, there'd be a gentle "whirr whirr" and it would amble a few plane-lengths down the runway and float magestically up into the air. A drsmatic difference from jets.

The fuselage on the 130H-30 is somewhat larger, and that can result in the wings looking smaller. For instance, in this photo it looks like an altogether different aircraft. However, from the blue stripe you can see that it is, indeed, the very 130 you were looking at…

Mystery solved.

The Guppy is not based on the C130 if one is being a pedant ;)

It was a Boeing design, originated from the B377 Stratocruiser I think.

The low wing configuration is a bit of a give away :ok:

I think av8boy was a bit TIC, Radar!:D If not, did Onan ACTUALLY see one of the Guppies flying inverted?

Could it be this? Its an Uzbekistan Airways Antonov-12. Some have huge diagonal blue stripes that go from the tail to the forward fuselage. Those wings do look skinny.
