Hi,

I have recently upgraded to XP(Pro). Everything works fine, with the exception of DVD-RW writing (playing is ok). The system simply won't recognise the RW-disc (no right-click option to 'format' etc).

Is it correct that XP has it's own inbuilt program, or could the problem be that I need to buy a program similar to Adaptec (which I used in Win98)?

I'd be grateful if anyone could 'shine a light' for me on this problem.

I would have a looksee at the device manager and copy down details of the drive concerned and then hot foot it to the manufacturers website for the latest drivers. That should help (most probably will fix the prob) and is at least, the best place to start.

Let us know how you get on.

It might also be worth going to www.roxio.com and getting the latest update for your Adaptec software. If I remember correctly, when I installed XP I had to buy the latest version software.

I use Nero at work to backup specialist software. Works a treat - will burn a dvd is quick as writing to a floppy.

When I use Nero, it 'complains' that this is a non-standard way of writing--completes the process, but when I come to re-use the disc, once again it seems to be unrecognised. I couldn't find an option in Nero to format the drive either.

Thanks for replies... haven't had time to try the various suggestions yet, but will work through them when I have time.

Cheers for now...

Writing to RW isks is normally done by using some foprm of packet writing software, Nero comes with a utility called incd, try installing that and trying again.
