Crash at Orlando Flight Training

Observed the incident of N280FT which today at approximately midday local crashed into the Charly area to the west or runway 15 at Kissimmee Gateway airport.

No one hurt, just a low hours ppl student on second solo had a problem yet to be disclosed and was unable to control the aircraft.

The nose wheel and undercarriage was completely bent off but caused no injury.

Once official data is posted will update this thread.

It would appear that there is no problem with OFT aircraft and as a current student I can confirm they have an excellent fleet in great shape for training aircraft and some excellent instructors who are very accomodating and willing to help.

Will keep this thread up to date.

Probably stalled on landing, watched it balloon twice and on the third bounce broke the nose wheel and bent the aircraft. Doh... happens quite a bit - someone did it at Fife a couple of weeks back to a C152 - right off apparently.

Yeah this happened about two years ago when i was out in the states. Think it was abit more dramatic guy had an engine failure at the end of the runway and landed in the trees. I think he had a few scratches and bruises but was ok. Top guy though, few days later he was flying again. :ok:.

Word from another student is that

- it was instructor with pupil
- he was out of fuel

Great, getting out of fuel with an instructor, this is the way to teach that fuel is essential.... and 85% of all single engine accidents.

I think thats a different crash. N280FT is operated and owned by Orlando Flight Training.

Did about 30hrs in her myself inc a trip to Key West which included flying over the Everglades at night!!!!! :cool:

What’s with this paranoia about alligators in Florida? It's the mosquitoes that will get you at night in the everglades! The alligators are there to help clean up the left overs in the morning!;)

Still no clear news,

Definately was a student solo not with an instructor.

Looks like he may have cought some wake turb from departing traffic, but nothing official has been released so it is only speculation.

I think there are crossed lines here, two different incidents are being discussed, one at OFT a solo student and one at Naples FL a student and instructor running out of fuel. The incident at OFT sounds exactly like an incident, nothing more than an extremely heahy landing after balooning. THe Naples one sounds a bit more serious as it sounds as if it went down due to running out of fuel tut, tut.

I am sure it was truly an accident, but I have seen and heard nightmare stories from OFT.
EG brakes didn't respond on the twin I was flying from there.
If you look at the previous history of OFT there has been an accident from bad maintainence.
I hope the guy is okay and up in the air as soon as ..

The student pilot concerened is back in the seat finnishing his ppl.

Does not seem phased by it at all, he was more pi**ed off with filling out the paperwork at the police station!

This incident did not have anything to do with poor maintainence at OFT. Think they have cleaned up their act, all acft seem to be in good shape and very very clean.

Currently I am flying the cadets and warriors and they are all appear to be well equipped and in good shape with only the occaisional minor defect.

They have also just purchased 2 new cadets which are being brought on line today. The main thing that lets the school down is the poor schedualing, watch this space for a post!

Did you take off then? Or go back to get them fixed? Are you saying that OFT refused to fix the brakes of this aircraft? What action did you take as a result?

I have personal experience of flying with OFT and other than the fact that they could do with another Seminole, I had absolutely no problem with them whatsoever. To the contrary, I very much enjoyed my experience with them and successfully completed a multi-cpl there.

Don't cast generalised aspersions at other people or institutions unless you are prepared to back it up. Especially not when the discussion is so serious. I'm sorry for being a bit strong (I vary rarely make comments), but I'm sure you wouldn't like it if it was cast at you or your business.
