For just a split second there (no more, honest!) I though the Mig (or Sukhoi, me nyet spik da Russian welly vell) was a Lightning.

Great pics, we are indeed spoiled!

Whose F-18 is that, I don't recognised the roundels?

Treadigraph had me going for a bit too.

Are there any still flying, EE Lightning i.e., that was some machine as long as you had shares in BP.

The F-18 is from the Finnish Air Force.

What no Victor this time? Thanks for sharing :ok:

You can get a ride in a Lightning if you travel to South Africa - alas, rules+regulations mean you'd be unlikely to see one airborne in the country of its birth :{

(I won't provide a link to the SA firm offering the flights, but you could always try "Cape Town Jets" in a search engine of your choice)

BTW, over at the Mil forum they refer to them as "Frightnings" ;)

Gaunty probably remembers the first test flights of the Aussie built Canberras! :E

What is a PC21 - a PC9 on steroids???

Nick

Excellent pictures. But please give us a clue - what lens(es) and camera are you using to get them?

Nick, you should stick a brief resume of your kit as a signature! :ok:

Ignoring the 20 years experience of waving a camera around at aircraft..

Canon D60 and 1dmk2

100-400L IS USM and Canon 12-135IS USM.

Treadders, they do that on one of the other boards I'm a member of. I'm not sure I like it. (They also list the flights they have booked for this year...now that is sad!)

The actual essential ingredient, and the difference between the so-so (but not unworthwhile) pics and those that, as Hairyplane would say, blown your frock up. Plus an eye for it...

Quite agree with the sentiment about the kit, but you get asked so often!

PS: mine are c r a p, but should ever I fluke a good 'un...!

Cheers

Thanks. Ignoring my 20 years of trying to get pictures like that (and failing) my 20D only has a 100-300 IS USM. Obviously it is size that counts and I am missing the last 100mm!!! ;)

I have to say it but I dont think you can blame the lens, I have heard many reports of the 20D and most of them have been not good :( That said its mostly been to do with the camera shutting down, when its works its ok.

Anyway the 100-300 is a good lens and you have a 1.6 crop factor so you should be ok.

If I can give you one bit of advice its pan tecnique... practise it like its a Golf Swing!

Make sure you are set in AIServo for focusing as that will keep the subject continuously in focus.

Sorry If I stating the bleeding obvious.
