View Full Version : Memo to the family dogs Bre901 18th Jul 2005, 09:10 rec.humor.funny (http://www.netfunny.com/rhf/jokes/05/Jul/dogmemo.html) [edited to adapt to the local spelling rules] tall and tasty 18th Jul 2005, 09:19 Bre 901 Brillant and very very funny. Reminds me so much of what my parents used to say to the 16 beagles we had when they were let out of their run and discovered the back door to the house open. TnT :ok: Flash0710 18th Jul 2005, 09:31 Better get the cat checked into the priory.... F. Paterbrat 18th Jul 2005, 09:40 Amusing and oh how true. Keygrip 18th Jul 2005, 10:50 Another one that's been doing the rounds for a while is the letter from a dog to its human. (http://www.check-flight.com) But - this one is NOT funny. Keygrip 19th Jul 2005, 02:19 Nothing to add - just bringing it back up in case somebody else reads it. Apologies for the abuse. allan907 19th Jul 2005, 02:40 Keygrip Tears to the eyes??? - Oh bugger, I was in floods. Is that a correct reaction for a middle aged bloke with 2 golden retrievers?? Jerricho 19th Jul 2005, 03:12 Allan, I can tell you as a 32 year old with a stupid Jack Russell/Lab cross, I reacted the same way......... In fact, the black fella is looking at me at the moment with a look of "Hey boss, what's the matter?". :( Man's best friend is truly man's best friend. It is nature's definition of pure, unconditional love. Edited cause I can't spell for s**t BombayDuck 19th Jul 2005, 03:39 Amen, Jerricho. Keygrip 19th Jul 2005, 11:22 It still has that same effect on me - and I've struggled through it dozens of times. I know a fair few females who are unable to read to the end of it. Whilst I didn't "NEED" it - it's even pushed me into a closer bond with our pooch. I sent it, some time ago, to a colleague at the CAA - she, apparently, sent it round the hallowed corridors of Aviation House and now tells me that two guys there (don't know who) have "picked it up" and use it as the basis of a fundraising charity to help protect and support mutts. Please - as the last paragraph says - send it to as many people as you can. Print it out and pin it up in your local veterinary surgeons waiting room - anything, anywhere. Educate people. tall and tasty 19th Jul 2005, 11:54 Jerricho Man's best friend is truly man's best friend. It is nature's definition of pure, unconditional love. I will second that too ps but how did a jack russell manage with a.....................oh never mind just visions of little doggie with step ladder I will get my coat...................... TnT :p Jerricho 19th Jul 2005, 13:52 Lofty one........... You're not the first to ask, and I'm sure you won't be the last ;) Eric 19th Jul 2005, 13:54 T&T, His mates put him up to it! :D Yorks.ppl 19th Jul 2005, 15:07 Perhaps this would be a good place to mention the Dogs trust. They run a sponser a dog scheme. We sponser a dog with behavioral problems who would not (as a result of human abuse) be able to be re homed. At least this is one abused dog that wont suffer the needle. He is a lovely dog, looks like a corghi cross to me and is happy where he is, but doesnt respond well to strangers. If anyone is interested I will dig out the paperwork tonight and add a link. pup150 19th Jul 2005, 15:12 yorks.ppl, I would be interested to find out more about the trust. Can't do enough for our four legged friends. BOAC 19th Jul 2005, 15:51 Every pet breed has its 'official' rescue/re-homing organisations who do outstanding work in saving these animals from unpleasant lives etc. and these are where people should at first be directed. 'Google' the breed name and you will find lots. At home, we are peripherally involved with Cavalier Welfare, and I know several people who are extremely active in the rescue of ex-racing Greyhounds, desperately trying to prevent the atrocities perpetrated in Spain and Ireland on these poor animals when their 'commercial' value becomes nil and putting them down humanely is judged to be too costly. It would equally sadden you all to see what happens to the Greyhounds. Cavaliers fare far better. Nani 20th Jul 2005, 04:11 10 DOG PEEVES ABOUT HUMANS 1. Blaming your farts on me...not funny....not funny at all! 2. Yelling at me for barking...I'M A FRIGGIN DOG YOU IDIOT!! 3. Taking me for a walk, then not letting me check stuff out. Exactly whose walk is this anyway? 4. Any trick that involves balancing food on my nose... STOP IT. 5. Any haircut that involves bows or ribbons. Now you know why we chew your stuff up when you're not home. 6. The sleight of hand, fake fetch throw. You fooled a dog, WHOOOOHOOOOO what a proud moment for the top of the food chain. 7. Taking me to the vet for the "big snip", then acting surprised when I freak out every time we go back. 8. Getting upset when I sniff the crotches of your guests. Sorry but I haven't quite mastered that handshake thing yet. 9. How you act disgusted when I lick myself. Look we both know the truth, you're just jealous. 10. Dog sweaters? Hello!! Haven't you noticed the fur???? (as a result of human abuse) Yorks.ppl, About 12 years ago,I decided our county needed a non-kill humane shelter and bought this 10 acre lot hoping to raise money for housing facilty. Within a year,we've had our permit and enough money to build such shelter. One of our first call was a report of severe abuse witnessed by this anonymous caller,so I grabbed our volunteer Vet lady and we headed for the adress. What we found was a lonely old woman and several cats, dogs and many goats in the property. One small dog was caged in a small chicken coop where he seemed well fed but obviously not enough space for him to be comfortable. All other cats and dogs were also well fed yet quite shy of strangers. We started to exchange pleasantries and asked her about the dog in that cage, she didn't have money to build a kennel to keep him from running loose, getting run over and possibly breeding. I decided to buy and set up a sturdy kennel where the dog could run loose without breaking out and she was most grateful. We gave her our newly printed business card and told her to bring her animals for shots or other medical needs. Over the years,we've had many bequests and we kept growing. About 4 years ago, this "abusive" lady passed away and left her property to the shelter hoping we'll take all her animals in and either keep or place them in homes which we were quite happy to fulfill her wishes. We found out she left us little over 500 acres, goats were left at the property with someone to care and feed them. 2 years ago some gas company contacted us for drilling rights and the shelter signed the papers. Gas company hit a bumper crop of natural gas,we've tried to find relatives, close or distant, for awhile and came up empty handed. Now, our non-kill shelter have over $25G of income per month. We bought nearly 80 acres adjacent to us and build some amazing playgrounds for cats and dogs. We also hired an officer to follow leads for abuse cases but each case must be treaded carefully since sometimes what comes across as abuse may just not be so. If we've alienated this poor woman from the start, our creatures wouldn't be as happy as they are now. Out of her 8 dogs,6 were adopted into wonderful homes, the other two are too old yet they learned how to be social and greet everyone with wagging tails. Few of her cats are also at the shelter still eyeing birds. Her name was Angelina, she turned out to be our angel.:ok: BigEndBob 20th Jul 2005, 07:09 Now....did i leave the dog in the car? www.putfile.com/media.php?n=flyingdog tall and tasty 20th Jul 2005, 08:46 Keygrip I had a chance to read that letter. God brought back memories of every dog I assisted with to be put to sleep and those I had to do myself. The soulful eyes that looked at you with the question why? if they could speak I used to cry alot when I first started in the profesion, but the years stopped that on the outside and you mourned on the inside. The worst was the designer dogs dobis/rottis/pitbulls that suddenly became killers with the introduction of the dangerous dog act. I had to put down a healthy 9 month old dobi pup as the owner did not want it any more and it could not be re-homed. I took as many home I could but you can't do it for ever. I hate society sometimes for the ease at which lives can be cut short but they way some treat animals reflexs on their attitudes to their fellow human beings Enough said I have got it off my chest TnT :( Yorks.ppl 20th Jul 2005, 12:08 Pup 150 and anyone else who may be interested the dogs trust can be found at www.dogstrust.co.uk Nani, what a wonderfull story, it raised my spirits on what has been the worst of days.
