My son wants to fly for a living, and he's considering the options available to him.
He finishes 6th form in early 2007 and hopefully will have the necessary grades to study engineering at university and come out with a good degree in the subject.

One of the possiblities is to obtain sponsorship/funding for the university costs via the MOD and then sign on for 12 years, hopefully to achieve his flying ambition, (we are aware of the requirements).
The other being the obvious, come out of unversitiy and get a (very hard to come by) place on a direct entry scheme with a major airline or part sponsorship through a scheme such as CTC.

I'd be very grateful for any constructive or balanced comment from anyone who has been through or is very familiar with the MOD sponsorship scheme, if you don't want to post here, pleae feel free to PM me.

Thanks.

No wanting to state the obvious but why didn't your son put a post up himself? As for sponsorship, I had a bursary and enjoyed drinking the money away whilst flying on the UAS, of course those were in the days when the government actually paid a large whack of my fees! Hope your son does well and don't let anyone tell him it's too hard etc. Just one other point, you don't actually have to have a degree to join.
