All this loose talk about underground runways is most distressing. It is the first time this has surfaced since the '70s. We managed to keep it secret then but it would be a tragedy if it got out now.

The other secret that might be talked about as it seems to be a pile of Ash now was the remote underground Ops Room. The idea here was to have a dummy Ops Room on the airfield as a bomb magnet and have the real HQ at a remote site, such as a sea plane base. The enemy would never look there as we didn't have any sea planes.

We know this is true as only the guys in black would put an air officer at Mountbatten so many miles away from his airfield. The master stroke was putting the underground HQ on the top floor of the officers' mess? Who would think of looking there?
