what sort of high school education is necessary for cpl

Not a professional or pilot, I think you only require Year 10 to get your licenses but if you want to go for airlines, then you need Year 12 with passes in Physics, Maths, English (The lowest level of Maths is not suitable in NSW, not sure about other states).

I stand to be corrected.

Could be wrong, but I don't think I've seen any reference to educational standards in the regs; you just need to be able to pass the various exams (which will by default imply that you're not totally uneducated), have an adequate command of the English language, be a 'fit and proper person' of the appropriate age and have the requisite flying experience for each level of licence.
Some employers, eg airlines, military, require you to have attained a certain educational standard in some subjects, notably physics, maths and English as mentioned by Condensation, and depending who you want to work for you would work on those.
They are certainly the ones that will help with learning and passing the theory subjects.
