View Full Version : Why NOT to join the RAF

My local TV Weathergirl (http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/bbcweather/forecasters/kaddyleepreston.shtml) has spilled the beans on the real reason.

I knew there had to be a reason other than the T&C.... :hmm:

Initially wanting to be a fighter pilot she decided she disliked the blue jumper/wool skirt uniform

It never bothered me! ;)

I like the skirt...shows off my cycling pins just right..and if I go commando my tackle gets a good airing.....oooohh ok matron just coming...time for my medication again.......

"a rather disturbing obsession with goats?"

Say no more...... :suspect:

I think THIS bit's a little disturbing myself...excited about setting up ... home in Tunbridge Wells!

Maybe she should have joined the Luftwaffe. Aren't their jumpers and skirts a fetching shade of grey?

Though not one of the two-winged master race, I think I'd be accurate if I said that few (if any) fighter pilots often wear blue jumpers and wool skirts. In the cockpit, at any rate. Who wears wool skirts anyway (apart from the Scots)?

Bizarre... :bored:

Though not as pretty as Biggles' weather-girl, this forecaster has more solid RAF credentials: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/bbcweather/forecasters/matttaylor_faq.shtml

"she disliked the blue jumper/wool skirt uniform and so fell back"

Hmmm... 'FELL BACK'

OR...

Did she just have the integrity not to "fall back" on her own back.

Then "fall" 'with-child'.

And claim squillions from HMG for being 'wrongly' sacked for not adhering to her 'contract'. And waste a couple of million quids of dosh during wasted flying training.

On the other hand, the idiots who so love following the RAC or any other uniform 'trend-setter' may be wholly responsible for the RAF not getting this particular lady recruited. Are the uniform deciders about to be moved out of Innsworth BTW or are they already buried within the corporate HQ?

Oh, and by the way.

[On- theme - she quotes being evacuated to Egypt.]

If President Tony firmly belived that there was a clear and immediate danger (45 minutes) to the Brits in Cyprus, why did he not order their evacuation or order appropriate self-protection (NBC) kit to be isssued to them all?!

The top weather totty on the BBC is East Midland's appropriately named Sara Blizzard. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/bbcweather/forecasters/sarablizzard.shtml

Hell, I wanted to be a fighter pilot, but had the much more convincing excuse having 4 eyes, and an unyeilding attraction to kipper ties and sandals with socks....

Mind you, shes worried about the skirts being itchy (must have been a cadet in a former life to know that!), and then went into a profession where everyone has a beard....?

Stand aside,

I consider myself something of an expert in these matters:

Lara Lewington Channel 5 Weather girl:8

Joanna Rice Sky News Weather girl "The Weather in Leather" :8

Only problem is, I am always left wondering what the weather will be!

Join the Met Office and see the world!!

Extract from Matt Taylor's Met Office Career:

'The bulk of the next three and a half years were spent working at RAF Cranwell, in Lincolnshire, but he also got to the opportunity to undertake detachments as far a field as Aberdeen and Hemsby, near Great Yarmouth'.

Keep it up son and one day you'll make it to Exeter, or even Inverness!

You know, Met. Office people actually volunteer to go Mount Pleasant, and even enjoy it.....

Aeronut - not a Channel 5 / Sky weather viewer, but thanks for those links! Lara Lewington appears to be, errmmmm, endowed with some good assets (despite the mole on the left one!! ;)), but the nasal profile appears a bit hooky (not that I'm much of a one to talk!!).

Joanna Rice - looks a bit 'jolly hockey sticks' - presenting in a cricket jumper and buttoned-up sailors blazer indeed!

Andrea McLean from GMTV (http://www.gm.tv/index.cfm?articleid=448) could do the job for me, if she begged for long enough! ;) :E

I'm sorry, but it's Helen Willetts that does it for me.

I'd get my coat, but it's a bit warm out!

Being only a mere RAF Traffic Controller and a lowly PPL holder I was enticed into this site by the headline 'Why NOT join the RAF'.........what was the original reason for this headline?? Or is it I just don't understand Mil Aircrew and Ill poke of back to the safe enviroment of ATC sites.

Neilmac,

You wouldn't pass the eye sight test! It's called 'Why NOT to join the RAF'. It's a statement not a question!

Sharpen up!

You sound surprised

As its the only place in the world where you regularly get all four seasons in one day I imagine it would be a must for any budding metman.:ok:

Circuit Basher - a fair critique. I never actually noticed that Lara has a nose :8

Joanna Rice shakes of the Jolly Hockey Sticks image in a tight black leather catsuit, or a tight leopard skin top thing, but alas I cannot find pics. Ironically the "meteorologist" actually dresses as a cloud at the bottom page 2:

C130 Techie - quite the opposite... I was one of those who absolutely loved it, and would go back in a shot if I could. Amazing place!

I guess the difference between the Met. Office and the RAF in this case is that the Met. Office ask for volunteers (my fanancial situation at the time kind of forced me to volunteer but hey!), whereas the RAF send you there....

To be honest, for me it really was a choice between the Met. Office and the RAF at the time. Met. Office was the first choice (cos I like the weather - awww) and was the job I ended up with, but on a front-line RAF station - best of both worlds! And now I'm not in the Met Office, I'm a VRT Officer!

I really should hand this username over to someone who deserves it now..!

Either way I want her to wear that red leather number and then tell me I've been a very naughty boy. :E

What ever happened to Suzzane Charlton. Now there was a girl who would get onto myu Xmas card list. Not only was she gorgeous but her Dad could have sneaked me into OT on a Saturday afternoon.

 Suzanne Charlton was so skinny she'd have to run around in the shower to get wet :uhoh:

Czech TV station Nova have a weather girl who wears less clothes the hotter the forecast and in a heatwave reads the wx completely naked. Don't really get much for our BBC licence fee, do we?

From the BBC Web site, looks like she left them in 1999.

Found what she's doing now - looks like she's working for Warwickshire Police (http://www.warwickshire.police.uk/policingwarwickshire/nuneatonandbedworth/nuneatonecbos) as a community poilce officer!! ;) :D Oooohhhh - Suzanne Charlton in black stockings and webbing :-))~~~ :D
