Anyone any idea how I can block spam? Why do so many people think I have a small dick and need viagra to make it function? Has an ex been telling them stories? I get up to 60 of these a day. Block them and they come from another address. Block specific words and they change the spelling. I also keep winning lotteries and getting emails from various people representing dead diplomats with loads of dosh.

I use Mailwasher Pro (http://www.mailwasher.net/) - works well, IMHO.

I use Norton's AntiSpam. Works well be Microsoft Outlook. Had problems trying to get it to work with Outlook Express though.

Be careful who you give your e-mail address too.

Be careful who you give your e-mail address too

It's a fair point, but I have email addresses that get spam even though I've never given them out to anybody. My most-spammed address is one of these. If you pick a simple address on a popular email service then it'll probably get guessed.

Its all very well saying don't give out your email address...

We all get Spam and the only solution is a spam filter.

I use Spampal and its a bit tricky to set up YOU HAVE TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, but it has SOLVED my 80+ a day problem!

Its at http://www.spampal.org/

Cheers!

it helps if your email provider runs their own spam filters. i think most of them charges for these services.

besides that, run your spam filters in your email program.

I have gotten fed up with it too. McAfee works OK but..............Mailwasher works OK but.................and others seem to work well but...............what I have done, because most spam comes in on one addy only. Is to block it in OE by changing the server - anything in fact.

Then every few days I go to www.mail2web.com and type in the addy you blanked and your password, and there you are - loads and loads of spam. You can check it or kill it before it gets into your pooter. Nice and clean. Haven't had any spam on that addy for weeks - at least on my pooter. Bliss, absolute bliss!

Mailwasher Pro saves my sanity (and my ISP prefilters much of the junk for free).

PS: If you didn't know, MW Pro allows you to review your mail on the server, before you download it, and delete crap before it ever gets onto your PC.

I am glad this thread has popped up again. Some kind individual may be able to help me with a probem.

Until recently, I have been using the message rules in Outlook Express to delete spam from the server before it ends up in my inbox. For some reason, this appears to have stopped working and all the mail that I never used to receive has appeared again. I have tried re-installing and re-setting the rules with keywords. No change.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

For years, I have always wondered what the spam problem was because I had never experienced it! Naturally I have always been very careful not to display my e-mail addresses where they could be "browsed"

However, yesterday one of my addresses received 100 hits, two of which I wanted to read, the other 98 were immediately deposited into the virus vault by AVG as they contained the mytob virus. Complain to my ISP who advertise the fact that all incoming e-mails are scanned for viruses? "Sorry - some do get through, just put up with it and it will eventually stop."

P.P.

There's usually a gap between the virus being released and the filters knowing how to block it - with a fast-spreading virus you can get hundreds getting through in that time.

Thanks folks: I will try mailwasher and see if it works! Already had to stop using one emai address and my main address is getting bombarded all the time and I do not to change it again if I can avoid it.
