Last night I went to a centenary celebration of a former theatre that is now a nice museum.
They had people dressed in Edwardian costume, a "birthday cake" and a palm court orchestra playing the same programme as the original opening a hundred years ago. Lots of local celebs etc had been invited and it was an enjoyable eve.
At the original opening the band had two members who went on to play for the White Star Line and were in the band some 7 years after the theatre opening on the titanic when it went down. One of their surnames was Russell and the other was Hulme.
Last night, at the centenary, one of the bits of music played was Nearer My God to Thee, and the conductors name was a Mr Russell-Hulme!!!!
Spooky or what??:\
