Trying to update XP I used IE and having got as far as "Checking for Updates" received an error message that Windows was unable to update with an error message number of 0x80244022. I have searched the MS database but it does not recognise the error message.

I used IE rather than my Firefox, cancelled my firewall but to no avail.

Any ideas please?

shack.....

As you say, not much information around on this particular one.

There is someone similarly exasperated on this (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53845) forum link, with a couple of suggestions at the botom of the post. Not much, but may help.

Thanks BSK. I went to the link, did as suggested which did not cure the problem as such but it produced a different error message for which was listed a cure on the MS database.

Don' you just love MS!!!

I have a similar problem once there are some solutions here (http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/troubleshoot.aspx?ln=en) I think the one that fixed it for me as this one (http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/showarticle.aspx?articleid=14&ln=en)

Good link spanners - thanks.

Used the second link today on a machine giving an update error. Worked a treat.

I used to use Norton Internet Security, but gave it up because of Windows Update Problems.

It would let me download the files, but the PC always hung when it tried to install them.

Now I use Zone Alarm Pro and AVG
