Hi there

Could a Commercial Pilot, i.e. flying short haul (737 a320 etc.) for an airline please run through what an average day at work involves for both the captain and FO... Start to finish...

I'm curious about what you have to asides from fly an aircraft...

Many thanks

thanks for that...

so basically a routine would be:

- Check in
- Meet Crew, the Captain
- Check weather
- Check Route
- Then off to the airplane, one does walk round other does start up proceedure
- FO Calculates fuel weight, v speeds etc
- Take off
- Flight
- Land
- Shut down
- Repeat or sign out

???

During the flight what can u be expected to do? check: weather, route, fuel etc.?

Repeat or sign out

That would be luxury for most people.

Repeat up to 5 times is happening now, so 6 sectors in a day, especially with the Low Cost carriers that are operating short sectors.

You forgot "Fill in expense forms"!!!!!

Which, with the way things are going, will before too long become

Remember to claim on my tax the cost of the uniform
Remember to claim on my tax the cost of the overnight accomodation
Remember to claim on my tax the cost of the travelling
Remember to claim on my tax the cost of the meals.
Remember to claim on my tax the cost of the medical
Remember to claim on my tax the cost of the type rating
Remember to claim on my tax the cost of the licence renewal
Remember to claim on my tax the cost of getting qualified in the first place

Remember to bill the airline for my time, and chase up payment of my last invoice, as I'm now self employed as a contractor, and the airline head office is a portacabin on a farm somewhere in the middle of the Bog of Mayo, and 99% of the work is done by a computer network.

Couldn't happen? Be afraid, be very afraid!
