View Full Version : Lightie flies near White House - who cares

Listened to news this morning supposedly of international importance that stunned me on several levels. A light aircraft with two allegedly non-ragheads (I believe this is an official ONS descriptor) flew within 5km of the resident/office of the US president, who wasn't there.

:ouch: Said bugsmasher, with the destructive potential of a Honda Civic, is intercepted by 2 F-16 and a Blackhawk, occupants apprehended.

:ouch: White House evacuated

:ouch: Congress halted

:ouch: Dubbya accused of not having his hands on the levers for not giving the order to shoot the poor b@stards down!!!

What a bunch of crap!!! Why is this news???

I have endured a meeting or two with a certain local Dick head where he whines that he could fly where he liked in the US and in Australia he couldn't fly over Pine Gap. Suggest he gets over there and gives it a go. Make sure you get a letter of introduction from John Anderson for Dubbya so he can show he has his hand on his lever next time.

I think you've had your hand on your lever too much karrank, Dick enjoy himself too much does he? Your good friend Johnny Anderson looking after aviation is he?:8

Thats hilarious - I am sure you will agree.;)

Bit of an insult to the Honda Civic though.

There is only one core theme too all this imported paranoia about aircraft and terrorists (The War on Errorism) - and that is Ignorance, Stupidity, and Fear.

The Packer-watching Drones think a C152 will explode like a nuclear warhead because thats what happens when Bruce Willis jumps out at the last second (assuming Big Brother Renovation Rescue My Celebrity Island Makeover wasn't on the other channel).

Meanwhile a thousand Bul Liquid Fuel Tankers drive around Sydney every day - with nobody checking if they have a security card ir worse carrying a pair of nail clippers!

It's true - you get the government you deserve.

And what if the C152 were carrying a nuclear device or a chemical weapon aboard, which may have airburst over a wide region of significant geographical / political importance. Such security measures are taken to ensure the security of the government but also the very core of the American political system. (don’t even joke!)

As much as it grates this limey to say it - keep it up yanks, keep it up.

Btw - I love Oz for being so chilled out (best 6 months of my life there) but if u wana be top power then u gotta act like it. (Overkill, warts and all!)

“the notion / actuality of supremacy”

..the Dutch passed it to the Spanish
..the Spanish passed it to the British…
..the British passed it to the yanks….
..and one day, the yanks will pass it to the Chinese.

The only rules being: That as the baton passes from 1-to-the-next, the predecessor acts like it’s no big deal and rests on its loral’s for a few decades before realising who the f**k just usurped them. Whilst the new guy with the baton makes everyone sure of who is running the show – he might only have 2 century’s! Time and tide and all that….

speedbirdzerozeroone,

I think you inadvertantly proved my point.

(BTW: If a nuclear weapon fits in a C152, it also fits in a Honda Civic)

A Honda Civic (using 2 dimensions – the road / time) is stopped at the front gates. (by crash barriers / reinforcements / etc)

An a/c can pick its arrival point using 3 dimensions – unless they have concrete barriers suspended mid-air above the white house?

Surely you can’t compare the tactical applications of an automobile to that of an aircraft.

A Bulk Liquid Fuel Tanker can carry 45 Tonne of Explosives and drive through residential areas - unchallenged.

A C152 has a MTOW less than 1 Tonne.

Surely you can’t compare the tactical applications of an aircraft to that of a fuel tanker.

Anyway - the real point is that the aircraft is 'monitored' - road vehicles are not - if the aim of this exercise is to get undetected to whatever the target is, who is going to use a light aircraft?

According to the yanks, tearists deliver boms in two flavours
1. white van man
2. towel-head arab airplane man

Karrank - yeah, don't really care, but the "arrest" footage on the RWY was priceless. At least the hopeless pilots didn't get 80 rounds pumped into them LA-style.

Don't forget the White House was previously attacked by a Cessna 150. (http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/ustreas/usss/t1pubrpt.html)

It should be noted that the "pilot" of this aircraft had indeed been smoking crack! (See Chap 2).

...which is only fair as GW the un-president has been doing coke and drink driving.

All hail the thief.

No doubt I will now be branded a socialist left wing ratbag - compared to the alternative .... I graciously accept the title.

If you had taken the time to read any part of that report, you might have noticed the target was President Clinton.

But then, why confuse the issue with facts?

I agree with speedbirdzerozeroone, the White House has to have the appropriate measures in place:ok:
The fact that DC central was evacuated is merely procedure!
In the end of the day it's not the goverment departments that make us endure this rubbish
It's the media, take our asteemed prime ministers brush with death! just another example of the media using the publics ignorance

Are you blokes living in fairyland? We recently had a case where a light aircraft came close to being shot down because he was heading for a sensitive area in Australia.

HaHa, Maybe they should have a bumper sticker that says I'm an American flight instructor, FEAR ME, :p

I for one would be very afraid:D

"We recently had a case where a light aircraft came close to being shot down because he was heading for a sensitive area in Australia"

What! Where? Was he being shot at because he was flying near an office, or because he was flying where they were shooting stuff anyhow???

A light aircraft was heading for controlled aircspace without a clearance, and a military aircraft was sent up to deal with it. I think it was when sherif George was in Canberra. Fortunately the aircraft turned away before the boundary. The code words ( for shooting) were not transmiited.
It's all very real.

I thought it was the CHOGM in Brisvegas back in 2002?

Could be. I do not remember the details, but it definitely happened in our own country. Fortunately the lightie turned away before any triggers were oulled.

They'd be as successful as they were trying to shoot down the runaway Auster out of BK.

Check this release out on the yahoo website from the lightie intruders. They've written down in there own terms exactly what went wrong up there, see what you think of it?
