Coming back from Venice ( Treviso really ) today and informed by flight deck that due to Radar/Radio failure at Liverpool, we would be holding. Alleged problem rectified in approx 10 mins.

Any further info? Wx was good. Why not continue procedurally?

If it's a total radio and radar failure how would you suggest that ATC run the approach "procedurally"?

How about via Man or Warton?

More interested if there was actually a system failure on the ground.

Silver,

Are you being serious or is this a wind-up?

03 headset. Thanks for that.

Not a wind up, just a genuine query. That clears that up.

Whilst the radio would definitely be a problem, until Liverpool got themselves a decent radar, Manchester did use to vector scheduled flights until they were established on the ILS or went visual. Silverhawk therefore did have a point.

The problem on this occasion, the cleaner pulling out the three pin plug to use her Dyson?

allegedly Liverpool got a state of the art radar but it got nicked as someone took it out of the box.

Seems a little strange but GLA/EGPF has a problem with theirs as well. Went to Cat1.

Could a LPL ATCer explain the longwinded vectors that are so much a part of any arrival? No, I'm not taking the p##s, just interested in knowing if a few more kgs of fuel would be a good plan in future and yes it is close to MAN and yes it is much busier but even so, it still seems very laborious. Flew out of Liverpool and back in there again yesterday and the secondary radar was still inop. Traffic being handled quite easily by ATC though they did need position reports from light aircraft.

she used to work for the health service.

Ahh yes the thieving Scouser jokes...yawwwwn

A UPS failed causing the power cut. 15 minutes of disruption, no big deal and no significant delays.

Unfortunately we were unable to get our SSR feed back (remotely provided by NATS) and as far as I know it's still off. Neither NATS, BT, or our own TELS guys seem to know whats causing the problem. So we're Primary Radar only for the moment.

Yeoman - feel free to drag your arse over to ATC where we will happily sit you down in the radar room and answer your questions. Far more beneficial to us BOTH than through this forum.
