Does anyone recall a song which includes a lyric something like;

"707 mockingbird gets me down"

I can't find it on any of the lyric sites.

Song title and artist please and your time starts now.

If I don't get an answer, I propose to record it myself and then ask whoever sues me!

Cheers

You're not thinking of Creedence Clearwater Revival are you? Come on scream it with me..."seven thirty seven coming out of the sky, oh won't you take me down to memphis on a midnight ride..........."

No, that's not the one. It definitely had "mockingbird" in it somewhere,

You should ask the same question on Jetblast, they are the music guru's around here.

Cheers, HH.

:ok:

PS: I have asked for you.

How about this one Fris,

Hollywood

EARLY MORNING RAIN by Gordon Lightfoot

In the early morning rain, with a dollar in my hand.
With an aching in my heart, and my pockets full of sand.
I'm a long way from home; Lord, I miss my loved ones so.
In the early morning rain, with no place to go.

Out on runway number nine: big 707 set to go.
An' I'm stuck here in the grass, with a pain that ever grows.
Now the liquor tasted good, and the women all were fast.
Well now, there she goes my friend: she'll be rolling down at last.

Hear the mighty engines roar; see the silver wing on high.
She's away and westward bound; far above the clouds she'll fly,
Where the mornin' rain don't fall, and the sun always shines.
She'll be flying over my home in about three hours time.

This old airport's got me down; it's no earthly good to me.
An' I'm stuck here on the ground as cold and drunk as I can be.
You can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train.
So I'd best be on my way, in the early mornin' rain.

You can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train.
So I'd best be on my way, in the early mornin' rain.

Thanks for doing that on my behalf.

Great song but not the one. Peter, Paul and Mary had a hit with it.

One other song that mentions the 707 is "Jet Airliner" by The Steve Miller Band ("but my heart keeps calling me backwards as I get on the 707"). However, the "mockingbird" one continues to elude me, so maybe I am imagining it.

If you are wondering why I need this information, I'm researching a thesis on why Boeing is better than Airbus. Ever heard a song about a 'Bus? ;)

Cheers

Capt Hollywood was right. "Early Morning Rain" was written by Gordon Lightfoot and not Bob Dylan as I suggested previously. One of the lyric websites attributes the song to Dylan which shows you've got to watch these plagiarist hippies! To be sure, I went through stacks of vinyl, found the PP&M album and it's definitely Gordon Lightfoot.

FBF,

Can't find your Mockingbird song. Tried all kinds of searches.

Don't forget ELO - Calling America "across the water on a 747".

Cheers,

DA

Thanks for your trouble. I was initially confining my search to the 707 but thanks for adding the ELO 747 song.

Other 747 songs are:

"It Never Rains in Southern California" composed and performed by Albert Hammond. "Got on board a westbound seven forty-seven"

"LA International Airport" composed by Leanne Scott and recorded by Susan Raye. "Soaring high above the heavens in a seven forty-seven".

Cheers

There's a Tom Paxton song 'I lost my heart on a 747'

I don't think the lyrics are Google-able. Remembered excerpts include:
I lost my heart on a 747
Halfway to heaven
Passing over Des Moines
...
There in the middle of a spicy movie
Starring Natalie Wood
We made our vows together
Cutting our steaks as best we could
...
My love removed her earphones
And told me in her dear tones
She had to powder her nose
...

The lady in question turns out to be a hijacker and they end up in Havana.

If you're hunting for songs mentioning 'buses, make sure you make a full and detailed look through French songs too.
American songwriters tend to live in America, where American airlines (small 'a') tend to fly Boeings, as Boeing tends to be an American company.
Look around where Airbuses come from, and you might be surprised.

(Or maybe its because its very hard to find a rhyme with "McDonnell-Douglas")

Flying along in my McDonnell-Douglas,
If I get the mixture set right then it's gonna chug less,
if I hit a fly then that'll be one bug less,
and I got the bluu-uuu-es...

Just goes to show you can rhyme anything with anything if you draw a long enough bow, for example, the Flaming Lips' "She don't like jelly" has:
"She don't use nothin' that you buy in the store,
she likes her hair to be real orange..." (pronounced o-rrrrnge in true Californian style).

The bit about the thesis was a lie. Although I will be singing the praises of the 707 I won't be putting the 'Bus down.

Have you ever seen sydney from a 727 at night ?

Mystery Solved.

Thanks to the guru at 4KQ in BNE, I now know that I wasn't imagining things. The song is "People Call Me Country" by the late Digby Richards. I'm told it was a hit in 1972. The lyrics still elude me however. I still need the exact lyric that includes "707" and "mockingbird". Anyone out there who likes both kinds of music and has the album?

Cheers

"Early Morning Rain" was also covered by Elvis, and later by the great Eva Cassidy. I highly recomend Eva's version if your looking for something a little folky but massively soulfull.

Still a bit partial to the Johnny Mann Singers "Up up and Away" (aka TAA 70's theme).

That Enya "Storms in Africa" (aka Ansett 80's theme) just makes the skin crawl... :yuk: :p

What about......to the tune of 'I'm leaving on as jet plane'

'I'm heaving, on a jet plane
Don't know if I can fly again
My stomach's left back home
Oh bloody hell...'

You only live twice. Once when
you're born. Once when
you've looked death in the face.

I finally tracked down a copy of "People Call Me Country" by Digby Richards. FWIW the actual lyric is:

"707 mockingbirds they flying in the sky".

Now maybe we call all get some sleep.

Close file.
