I need to chat to somebody at their place of work. I normally use MSN but the person at the other end is being blocked by a firewall. Is there anyway to get around this. As far as I know certain sites are blocked by the firewall, like MSN yahoo etc.

Hiya

If MSN is being blocked by the firewall at work then the only way runf it is to speak nicely to the IT guys. Mind you they will probably say F**K OFF!!!!!!!!!!

There are ways, but it's probably a pretty bad idea to try - circumventing a firewall is almost certainly something you're not supposed to do (it's there for a reason, after all) and will be frowned upon if caught. Better to ask them to unblock it (possibly with a good reason why... :) ).

Its not considered to be a good reason, at least in their opinion!

Got around it by using a more obscure chat program that wasn't on the list:E

you need to get the appropriate ports opened in the firewall to get chat programs working, unfortunatly finding the correct ports is trial and error. I believe video and voice use the udp protocol rather than the tcp protocol and I believe that many sys admins dont alow udp connections.

The ports that Messenger uses are very easy tofind. Just search Google.

Port 80 or 1863 by default. Not hard
