View Full Version : Naming MP3 Album Tracks

I have several albums as MP3s on my computer hard disk, all of which have the tracks deignated as #1,2,3 etc. It would obviously be helpul if the individual tracks were named. I understand that some of the internet music programmes, such as Real, may be able to name the tracks, rather than me having having to manually name the present numbers.

Has anyone got any advice?

Maxell, looks like a great programe. BUT, unfortunately, like so many things to do with the computer, I haven't got it to quite complete the actions that you need to finish!

To explain, I followed the tutorial, which, after a dozen view-throughs (it's fast!), I had learned by heart. Most impressive, you type in the album name, and, magically, it knows the tracks that you have up on the screen. However, when I finally hit the last Go buton, a dialogue box comes up with: "Cannot open file C\Documents and Settings\etc, etc...\Album\The track that I've selected"

Any thoughts on why it won't complete?

Thanks,

Tosh

Ok open K-MP3
Top row under editors and taggers click on Rename/Tag
On screen that opens click on Add Files
Find the folder with the mp3's in you want to rename best if folder is named as the album and only has the tracks for that album in as trk1 to trk x click on folder to select it.
It will then add the tracks as 01.mp3 to whatever number mp3 and open a window asking do you want to automatically fetch song names from FreeDB

Click on yes then check Artist name and album name are in correct place
Click on search by the side of artist name
Click on name of album in results list then click on fetch track name. They appear on right side click on ok

Question window opens asking Do You want K-MP3 To auto sort files

Click on Yes
Another ask window will open asking time based auto sort or word detection I normally use time based
Click on OK after selecting which you want to use

Now your back to first screen with a list 01.mp3 to xxx.mp3 on left and track names on the right
Make sure rename files and Tag files are checked
Click Go and it will rename them

Close program and check the album folder all tracks should now be tagged

Max,

Thanks again. Unfortunately, I get to the very last command, and, unfortunately, it still doesn't associate with the files in windows explorer.

Most frustrating.

Thanks anyway. I'll try another album tomorrow.

The suggested software should do the trick, if you really cannot get it to work then you could try another program. I use MP3tag from this site http://www.mp3tag.de/en/.

I use Audiograbber which has a button called feedback which will connect to the internet and name all tracks. Tracks can be named by just their title or by album and title. :ok:

MusicBrainz (http://www.musicbrainz.org/) is an ID3 Tag writer. Huge database and just searches for you - you just tell it what folders you want it to Tag. Those that it can't name you look up manually or add to their database. It works by using album name/track number and even song length.
I did 15GB worth of music with it.
If you use Window's Media player, you can search for the album name and have it name tracks as well.
