View Full Version : G-LGxx, Boeing airline codes...

Flew this morning on G-LGTG TLS-LGW and was surprised since I'd never seen this series before. I looked it up and it's a 737-3Q8. Is there a web page somewhere that translates these codes into the original airline? Google didn't find anything.

The G-LGxx seem to be a mixed bag as far as their origin is concerned. I thought BA was moving to A320 and variants for shorthaul - what prompted them to buy this bunch of second hand 737s?

These codes form the last two elements of the three-character customer code. So, your aeroplane is a 737-300, originally ordered by I.L.F.C (International Lease Finance Corporation).


........unless, of course, anyone knows different??

You are correct Q8, is the Boeing customer code for ILFC.

G-LGTG can be traced as follows,

PK-GWD 01 Garuda Indonesia 28.08.89
N470KB 02 Princess Airlines 22.05.98
SX-BFT 03 Princess Airlines 22.05.98
N696BJ 04 AAR International Inc 18.02.00
G-LGTG 05 British Airways 08.06.01

Hope this helps from someone who has now done over 800 flights on BA B737's.

The CAA database shows this as 'Chartered',what everybody else calls leased,so probably STILL belongs to ILFC,and probably always has!

Thank you yellowdog - when I operated this in BA I was always puzzled by the ''No lop cho manadoo' (or something) sign in the forward toilet (when one lifted the lid - as a gentleman does.................):D

I think the answer was provided on another thread- with it was on Pprune or not is another question!!.

The reply I saw was that the G-LG series were allocated out of sequence at a time when BA were looking as considerable expansion from Gatwick - code LGW. The LG was therefore to be used for the Gatwick based fleet.

No doubt somebody can either confirm or deny this.
