NZAR RWY21 Powerlines

Goodmorning/evening,

Tranzpower are considering raising the height of their powerlines across the approach path to RWY 21. They say they need to raise them to increase capacity for a growing city and that 'undergrounding' the lines isn't justified.

I think their justification doesn't properly take into account the fact there is an airport approach path overhead.

Don't worry too much yet. If the residents to the south have their way these lines won't be built.

Yes, and considering the residents dont like aircraft over their houses at the moment, i cant imagine they'd like 300ft powerlines, not to mention health issues etc.

i think one of the biggest probs for NZAR would be the engine failure after T/O on 03, and it looks like it would also cause some issues for aircraft using the transit lane.....

Good to see the people of Hunua have joined forces with those from the South Waikato. The more parties opposed to the proposal the better. MikeKnight, one could argue that the existing powerlines provide enough of an obsticle, I can't see how ardmore can operate with up to 250 ft pylons in a similar area. I'm sure AFS will lend it's considerable muscle to the fight.

Indeed. Was good to see CP lending his wisdom on the news the other night on AFS behalf. As for the 03 SID being effected, they can just change the minimum net climb gradient and put the old BE76's even further below the mark. Haha.

There's a proposal to raise the upper limit of the Transit lane (T151) to 1500ft at the moment, due other issues though.
