Guys, I am a complete beginner when it comes to making my laptop wi-fi capable. I have a Dell Inspiron 8200. What do I do (ie what drivers/cards etc) to make it capable of receiving wireless transmissions.

As i said...I am absolutely wi-fignorant. so something in the mould of 'Wi-fi 101" will be a great help..

thanks

I just bought a standard PCMCIA wireless card and plugged it into my borrowed Dell Latitude C640 and it worked in both the wi fi enabled areas I went to very well, a hotel lounge and an airline lounge. Obviously the software came with it on a disk and the laptop ran Win2K.

Start by searching the shops for a PCMCIA Wi-fi card, provided your running XP the software that ships with that card should be all that is needed.

The card is a simple plug-in and go type so no complicated toolset needed ;)

Watch the CompuUSA or OfficeMax ads. You can pic up a laptop wireless card for $30 after rebate.

Try these.

How do I install the Client Manager Application for the TrueMobile 1150 Wireless Network Card on my Dell™ Inspiron™ 8200? (http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?DN=1067710)
