Interesting Stats in CXs End of Year Report. (Available at www.cathaypacific.com) Particularly when you look at the Staff Numbers. (Feel like youre working harder? You bet you are!)

It does however show how much more efficient a leaner workforce is. The ATKs per Staff member tell the story.

---------------1994 ----------2002--------2003 (SARS)

Acft No:------55-------------80------------86
Hrs Flown:---193,000------322,000-----322,000
Pax:-----------9.75mil-------12.32mil----10.06mil
Cargo:--------463,000T-----851,000T---875,000T
Destinations:-42-------------62-----------87

Staff:------14,469-------14,649------14,673

ATK/Staff:--574------885----------903

This years stats should be even more interesting.

Impressive job by all.

Yes, I think most are being paid more than they were in 1994, unless they got fired. Now, are they being paid as much as someone with their current seniority/ experience in the same position was paid in 1994 is a very different question...

(oh, and I can see that all this is maybe alien to those from the land of the 35 hour week, and August off. HK is a place to make money and do business - and not the best example to follow on work/ life balance! Still, you'll soon know if it is for you or not - and it is no secret that many HK residents down shift at some point to retire or live elsewhere)
