By an overwhelming majority in a postal ballot the residents of Edinburgh have voted to reject the plan to introduce a so called congestion charge on motor vehicles. Not only those drivers wishing to enter the city centre but also those wishing to enter the city at all!
The actual percentage was 26% in favour and 74% against.
There was a huge and probably illegal propaganda campaign mounted in favour of a yes vote by the city council whose baby this was. And a slanted question on the ballot paper itself. Nevertheless the residents en masse smelled a rat. We were smart enough to spot the hypocrisy. They know this council is endlessly greedy, anti car and itself a principal cause of making congestion worse with all the road narrowing and so on.
A blow for regular folk against the massed forces of officialdom!
