Don't take this the wrong way, but in terms of work, you are much better of in UK/EU. There are already way too many pilots down here and not enough jobs to go around, as a result conditions/pay are slowly (not that slowly actually) deteriorating.

Anyway, you'll find the info you are looking for here:www.casa.gov.au (http://www.casa.gov.au)

longstay,

Its relatively easy, a medical, some exams, and a instrument flight test. http://www.casa.gov.au/avreg/fcl_lic/overbr.htm

Special UK procedures as follows ...
Special procedures for UK licence holders
The UK CAA will not provide verifications or release information about UK licence holders unless the licence holder completes a specific authority to allow the release of the information to CASA. Further information will be published on the UK CAA website.

The UK CAA authorisation form SRG\1160 (64Kb Adobe Acrobat file) must be completed by each individual and sent direct to the UK CAA with the prescribed payment. The CASA application form must be sent to a CASA office. Both the UK CAA and CASA forms must be completed in all cases.

Once CASA receives the application, a formal request for verification of the information will be made to UK CAA. UK CAA will reply direct to the CASA office upon receipt of the authorisation form SRG\1160. CASA will not process an application further until a response is received from UK CAA. Inquiries about the progress of the verification need to be made with UK CAA.

Licence holders are advised to submit form SRG\1160 to UK CAA well before they intend to arrive in Australia to avoid unnecessary delays in the processing of paperwork.

Should be able to find someone in the UK to do the initial Oz Class 1. http://www.casa.gov.au/avreg/avmed/damedisplay.asp?type=DAME&Location=Overseas#36 . Would be cheaper to do it in Australia.

Hardest bit will be getting your photo id licence. http://www.casa.gov.au/avreg/fcl_lic/photo/index.htm

Certainly Oz would be interesting to do a bit of GA flying (im planning a year or two myself), but in terms of career prospects you better look outside Australia.

Another thing is immigration, they are currently reviewing the immigration list and the "Aircraft Pilot" might be removed, so hurry up before you miss the train.

Dont we all want a bit of sun :} :ok:

If the Uk is over taxed, then wait until you get to Australia :O but i do admit that you are doing the right thing re family move.

Well LS,

The transport system is not perfect in Australia as well just ask our aussie mates, but in general life in Australia is good i have to admit.

I'll send you some other links regarding migration to Australia later.

But going back to part of your question, you might find what you are looking for here:

Don't know about the public transport here either. In NSW, there have been times where, something like only 10% of trains were on time (if they were not cancelled services).

Regarding QF, join the queue, find the info on their website.
You can only join as a second officer (if you can make it through the phsychometric stuff, interview, sim etc etc), then the progression is by seniority.

Unfortunately competition is extremely high with lots of experienced pilots in the pile.

Don't mean to be negative, that is just the reality of it.

Good luck

BTW what sort of experience do you have??
